Chapter Eighteen: Goodbye

Once we arrive to St Mungo's, Lily had forgotten me and full on ran to her baby.

I sat myself down on one of the waiting chairs, and.. waited. I cannot believe she is leaving today. I hope she misses me. I'll miss her.

But I'm used to her not returning the feeling. For example, I love her. She doesn't love me back. I should just slap myself silly and get over it.

After what seems to be an hour, Lily comes out of the room. Dumbledore follows behind with Harry sleeping in his arms. I stand up and run my hands on my thighs nervously. She must be leaving. Now.

Lily approaches me and I can see the gleam of tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry you keep taking time out of your day to be with me..." She sniffs.

If only she knew that that was all I wanted to do.

"Thank you. It means a lot." She bites her lip, and I can't help but stare at her lips, and then she comes closer and embraces me. I put my arms around her too and squeeze her thin body lightly, making my insides squirm with delight.

"Write to me." I whisper into her ear. "Everyday."

"I will." She whispers back, and pulls away. Lily's body is still close enough for me to maybe kiss her, but Dumbledore is standing near. He wouldn't appreciate that.

"Take care." she tried to smile, and I try to smile back. She goes on her tip toes and plants a soft kiss on my cheek. I feel the energy run through me at the small gesture, though she probably meant for it to be friendly. I wanted it to be so much more than friendly.

"T-thanks." I quivered slightly. "You take care too."

We pause, and there's a small silence that looms between us. It's just a moment where we just look into each other's eyes. Her's are full of hurt and fear, confusion and hope.

Is this the part where I should kiss her? Even though she'll push me away?

"Lily? Lily, you should be get going now!" Dumbledore called, snapping the both of us out of our thoughts. I feel annoyed at him, but he was right. The baby was starting to get whiny.

"I'll miss you." Lily said quickly, looking back at me. She reached up and hugged me once more, before turning on her heel and leaving with Dumbledore.

That was it. Who knows how long she'll be gone?

But we'll write. Everyday. She promised. I promised.

I love her.
