Her eyes flickered open.
The brown orbs not yet used to light, fluttering again and again.
The sun tickled her cheeks, which had lost their colour through the span of 7 months.
Her brown hair was let down and was sprawled on the white pillow.
Her eyes wandered away to the beams of light entering the room through the open window. And then wandered to the furniture.
Then she looked down at herself.
The yellow sundress fitting her just perfectly. Like it was made for her. And it was. The only colour in the room was her. Her dress a contrast to the white bed sheet.
She lifted herself up from the bed.
As her feet hit the floor she felt herself slightly disbalanced.
She found it difficult to stand. Like her feet hadn't walked the ground for a long time. And they hadn't. They hadn't walked the ground since seven months.
Her head spun a little but she gathered balance.
She walked around the room once, her hands touching and brushing against the furniture. She could feel the slight warmth from it. She wasn't sure what made her do it but she moved further towards the cupboard, only to a single box kept inside.
It was open to reveal medicines inside.
Disregarding it, she further moved towards the window.
It was a beautiful scenery outside.
The forest seemed to cover the ground in every direction. As far as she could see, there was forest stretching. And then in the distance she could hear water running. Like there was stream somewhere nearby.
She wanted to feel safe.
Feel secure.
But she didn't.
All she felt was the wrongness.
Like she didn't belong here. Like she wasn't supposed too be here. She felt distant, almost lost, like something was missing.
But she let that be. She still admired the forestry and watched as far as she could.
She felt herself growing tired.
But she couldn't bring herself to move away from the window.
For some strange reason it seemed to attract her. Like she needed to escape. And there was a distant feeling in her heart to do it.
To escape.
It isn't right.
This place isn't.
She thought to herself.
Before she could even think further.
Everything came crashing down.
She couldn't remember.
She couldn't remember her own name. It felt like a distant memory. Her hands slammed against the window sill as she closed her eyes to remember. But nothing came to her. It seemed like she didn't know herself and truly, she didn't. She was still trying to remember when the door opened.
She turns around.
She was met with a boy, around her age.
Though , now that she thought about it, she seemed not to remember what her age was.
The boy was clad in a maroon suit. His eyes were a colour she couldnt put her finger on.
A mixture of blue and black.
A striking combination that's seemed to surprise her.
She could see his brown hair perfectly jelled back. He seemed to have a strong built too. But the most alarming feature of his face was his smile.
As her eyes shifted to his lips, the smile electrified her. His smile seemed to be distant but close. Like there was something he was hiding.
But it was warm. And real. She could tell that much.
She shifted her eyes back to his face.
And then the smile seemed to grow more. She looks at him closely and gives him a confused look.
She didn't know who he was.
And even though she tried hard to remember, she couldn't.
She panicked for a minute but then noticed him smile.
He rushed forward and engulfed her in a hug.
For a minute she stood shocked, but then finally gave in to the warm hug. It felt wrong to her but she didn't withdraw.
Because it looked like he could answer her questions.
Who was she?
Why was she here?
And mostly what was happening?
After two minutes he drew back smiling.
She gave him a confused look again. Because clearly, she didn't remember him.
His smile was then replaced by a defeated expression and he sighs, finally sensing her confusion.
"You don't remember me. Do you?" He asked, looking down with sadness.
When he looks up, she shakes her head, signalling a no.
He smiles sadly and brings a hand to her face. It looked like he knew everything.
Desperate to be answered, she started-
"Who......?" She paused, feeling her throat to be dry and lips chapped. She tries again.
"Who am I?" She asks.
He shakes his head slowly.
"The doctors told that you might just lose your memory, but they hadn't said it would be so bad." He said.
She looked at him, still confused.
What was happening? She thought to herself.
She wasn't sure what he was talking about.
So she made that face again.
"Who am I?" She asked again and watched as his eyes widened just so slightly.
"You don't remember it?" He asks.
She shakes her head, signalling a no.
He smiles sadly again. He runs his hand through his hair and finally spoke up.
"Maia. Maia Black." He said, and then paused, breathing slowly.
And then he continued, looking into her eyes, answering her unasked question.
"And I am Xavier Black." He pauses.
"Your brother."
