Lana's eyes were heavy, her hands busy, her hands busy, her head too clogged up to even think straight.
But still she didn't stop.
Her tired self kept rushing from one corner of the room to the other.
Her messy bun bounced on her head, her hair in need of an immediate cut, but her worries were far beyond that.
Currently her fingers brushed against the threads of primary colours as her eyes took in the nullity of her progress.
She sighed.
Eight months.
Eight months since that god forbidden day when she had got the last video.
Her heart felt heavy from all the pain, but like always, she squared back her shoulders and straightened herself.
She had to be strong, at least for her sister, who was probably not even alive anymore.
At this very thought the painful memory came back again.
Her sister was gone, lost again, taken away from her to an oblivion.
Why?
Only to spite Lana.
Only because that bastard couldn't get enough.
Lana had to find Maia, but how?
She had no clue.
She looked up again towards the world map that was stuck across the wall of this room. This room was different, far from the meeting room and only two people were allowed entrance here.
She looks at the threads. The threads connected the several places that somehow related them to Xavier or any place where he was spotted.
Looking at it should have given her hope but all she felt was sadness.
Utter sadness and defeat.
She had promised to protect her, to guard her with her own life, to not let her purity she'd, and most of all, to be there by her side always.
But all of that had now become meaningless, Maia was out of reach now.
So out of reach.
But Lana could still feel it, the connection, deep down she knew that Maia was still there somewhere.
And she was holding on.
She was lost in the memories when the door opened slowly and shut softly.
She already knew who it was.
It was usual for him to slip in like this. She internally wished for him to be someone else. But she knew, that whatever happens, whoever comes into her life, even though he tries hard, he can never replace HIM.
That one guy who she misses so much that it hurts.
Damien.
Just then strong arms encircled her waist and sturdy chest came up behind her.
But she didn't relax, instead she became more stiff. She wasn't comfortable with this. But he never seemed to notice her discomfort. And like every other time, she coughed and slowly drew back and away from him.
"Henry." She acknowledged.
He smiled his charismatic smile, one on which millennia of girls would swoon, but not her.
"I knew you would be awake so I thought I would again have to instruct you to your bed." At this Lana smiled sadly.
How could she possibly say no to someone who cared so much about you. But she couldn't take in the wrongness of the situation.
It felt like she was betraying Damien, even though he wasn't alive to witness it.
"I was just wrapping up." She said and looked towards the messed up room.
Thousands of papers scattered around the room which spoke of different information regarding Xavier. About a thousand of pictures lay across the floor while others were stuck on the cupboard. They all contained her loved ones, alive in pictures but mostly dead.
"You blanked out again. You need rest Lana. Look at yourself, you look ill and sickly pale." Lana looked down.
True. Her diet had decreased to nil and her appearance had become disgusting, nearly sickly. But she didn't care.
"It's fine Henry. I'm fine. I am going to my room anyway, just a few more minutes. You can leave now, unless you have something to tell me." She asked.
Henry first looked hesitant and then, as if deciding something, reached forward and held her wrist.
His expression changed to seriousness."Okay. I need you to see something."
Then within a few seconds they were out of the room, into the corridor. They moved past several rooms and came to stop in front of the meeting room.Lana looked at Henry, still dazed.
He sighed. "I can't hide it from you now, Andrea." Lana was now sure that it was something serious because he called her that. She looked at him questioningly."Everyone told me not to tell you, for your own good, but I really think you should know". He sighed again and then entered the room and Lana followed.
Inside was Lizzie, handling the laptop surprisingly. Her eyes widened as she noticed Lana.
"The video Liz." Henry said.
"But Henry, Lana can't..... "
Henry cut her short.
"She needs to." He said.
Lizzie looked down and typed several things and then turned it towards her.
Lana sat down facing the screen while Henry explained."We got a video this morning from Xavier." And he pressed play.
The screen lit up and Lana gasped with shock. As the video went on, Lana choked on her own tears as they slid down her cheeks.
And this time she couldn't be strong, not ever for her sister.
