The Oberain Mansion was buzzing with anxiety, everyone worried for the success of the mission. But Lana was in the worst condition remotely possible. She knew that she was taking a big risk trusting Xavier, people had openly told her so. But still, trusting her instincts, she had agreed. And here she was, getting prepared for the mission. It was, surprisingly, simple. And she knew that she had already done everything possible.
The weapons were now available, Rachel was secretly working as the computer wizz instead of Hazel, Hazel was kept out of the plan completely and it was relatively easy as she had been ill lately, Daria had joined the inner gang about which Lana was still not sure, and Damien and Lana could now work deplomatically. For now, all she had to concentrate on was deporting both Maia and Xavier from that mansion.
Lana knew everything about Xavier now. Why he did whatever he did. And she understood. Though she still wasn't so sure about the relationship that him and Maia shared.
Lana looked at her reflection in the mirror and sighed. The black seemed to look just about perfect on her. And of course, the colour suited her. "The colour of my soul." She whispered to herself. Then giving herself another glance, she moved out. Crossing hallways she reached the meeting room and entered it.
"Everyone ready?" She asked. And everyone nodded at her sternly. She was taking her inner gang with her and Nana, Nany and Stephen were going to manage everything here.
Her eyes flickered between everyone's solemn faces, ready to face whatever was coming up, even if it was failure again. Her inner gang nodded at her as her eyes met all of theirs one by one. Lizzie. Kevin. Paul. Cole. Castor. And Daria. She thought about Hazel for just a second.
Both Nana and Nany had told Lana not to hold Hazel capture just yet.
"Let her feel free. Let her think that she is a free bird." Nana had said.
"And when the time comes," he had paused. "We will clip her wings." Nany had added.
So Lana had agreed to do just what they said, though she wasn't sure I this was right.
Now, everyone got up and came towards her. She looked all of them, dead in the eye. "We'll do it." She said firmly and everyone nodded stiffly. They moved out, into the cars and to the private airport. Lana felt anxious inside but maintained her calm. Taking our her phone, she dialled Xavier's number. He picked up on the third ring.
"We are reaching the airport. I hope there is no change in the plan." She said curtly.
"No Lana. But, please. Just try to hurry up. I'll be waiting." He said strongly.
"I'll call you when I reach Chicago." And she cuts off the call.
They reached the airport and boarded the private jet. Everyone took up seats and sat in buzzing tension. And then Damien came to sit beside Lana.
"You are sure this is going to work?" He asked, looking at her closely.
"I am not sure of anything. But this is the best option we have." She said back.
"There are so many loop holes to this plan Lana. It's too risky." He said. Lana looked at him closely, into his deep blue eyes and smiled ever so slightly.
"I am ready to risk anything for my little sister." She paused. "And anyway, what's life without a little risk?"
She spoke those words softly. They were the words which Damien had once whispered to her eight year old self when she had been screaming and squirming, saying that going on a roller coaster was like risking your life.
