Lana moved out of the infirmary with her ears ringing."Hazel told him Lana. He took Maia away. I tried. I tried saving her but I . . . . ." And Xavier had become unconscious again.
Xavier had gained consciousness only for a minute and then had become unconscious again, only giving Lana the confirmation that she had needed.
As soon as she had reached the Oberain Mansion, she had signalled Kevin to take Hazel under captivity and he had done just that.
But she was confused. Even if Hazel had told on them, why hadn't she fled after that. And just about then, Lana's mind clicked.
She called Kevin, muttered a ring of instructions and told him to hurry with it. Cutting off the call, Lana walked to the room where Hazel was held captive since the last three hours. Kevin said that he hadn't been able to get any information out her.
So her mind went back to what Nany Lily had said."We clip her wings." And Lana understood. She felt her blood run cold. Her muscles tightened. And for a second, her heart died. She reached the room and stood facing the door. Daria was standing outside, looking remotely blank but slightly worried.
Lana made a mental note to ask her about it later. Because right now, she wasn't sure if she could actually let on a proper emotion."Lana. Hazel just wouldn't open up and-" Lana shrugged off her leather jacket and held it out to Daria.
"Hold." She said coldly. Daria took the jacket from her hand and stared at Lana. "Whatever happens, whatever you hear, don't come inside." Lana said and walked in, closing the door behind her.
Her boots clicked against the floor as she moved further inside. The only sound otherwise audible was Hazel's heavy breathing. She looked bad. Bruises marked her face and blood was dried on her busted lip. For a minute, Lana's bravado broke.
'I am a sensitive summer thing.' She remembered herself saying.
She felt like laughing now, her laugh devoid of any humour.
'Colder than the snow.' She thought to herself now. Anything but sensitive.
Yes. Lethal. Ruthless. Cold. Yes.
Then Lana moved closer to Hazel. She noticed Lizzie standing in the corner of the room, noticing all of Lana's moves. Reaching Hazel, Lana watched as Lizzie sucked in a breath. Feeling Lana's presence, Hazel opened her eyes and looked at her.
Lana could see it. The intense loathing. The consuming hatred. Lana anticipated Hazel's next move, thinking of the worst that the girl could do while being tied up.
But Hazel just laughed. She threw back her head and laughed, mirth evident in her eyes.
Lana stood there, seething with rage.
"Xavier wasn't supposed to be left alive. My cover wasn't supposed to be blown just yet." Hazel said, still smirking. "But now I know why he left Xavier." Her smirk widened. The pressure opened up her already busted lip and blood slowly trickled down her chin. She spoke again, voice deeper, softer.
"He wanted me to enjoy this show." And she laughed again. Lana couldn't take it anymore.
But still in a composed voice, she asked, "Where is she?"
Hazel looked at her. "You really think I'll tell you?"
Lana didn't answer right away. Silence settled as Lana inched her face closer to Hazel's. Just inches away from hers.
And then in a cold whisper she asked again, "Where is Maia?"
Hazel still held her ground. "I am not-"
