Lana was in the car, on the way to the private airport owned by the Oberains'. Her eyes were focused on the message on her phone.
'Alone Lana. No playing games. '
~D
Which is why she had to set off right in the morning, without telling anyone. She had silently gone to everyone while they were sleeping and said her silent goodbyes. Most difficult of them all had been Damien who had been muttering Lana's name in his sleep when she had kissed him and moved out.
Lana knew that they would be worried when they wake up. She didn't know how Damien would react, when he sees she was gone, again. All of them would probably call her foolish but she had to do this. Alone this time. Lana's mind goes back to everyone at home.
Her father had been really ill lately but he had still been working his bit. Nana and Nany's tireless working had inspired Lana. Macy, Melissa, Jake, Levi, Sarah and Emma had all been working for the gang too. Lana had also see Daria and Kevin slipping out of the gang house for a little date which Lana had helped Kevin plan and then Rachel and Henry were getting along well too.
But the worst of all was Xavier, blaming himself for everything.
"For all I know, my Dad is already dead because of me! And now they have Maia too!" Lana remembered the way Daria had scoffed at his statement.
"You have destroyed too many lives to save just a few Xavier. I don't think it's going to get better for you." Daria had said to him and walked off. Lana was still having problems wrapping her mind around the piece of information that Daria had given her.
"My sister, Ara Lynn, had been Xavier's girlfriend. Because of him, she got killed. Because of him, my father got killed Lana." She had whispered, a lone tear escaping the edge of her eye.
But even after this, seeing Xavier shiver everytime Daria even passed a look to him, had made Lana's cold exterior melt. She had talked to him, comforting him and telling him to wish for the best.
Lizzie had appeared cold and distant to Lana. And when she had asked Kevin about it, he had informed her that it was probably because it was Lizzie who had shot Hazel, not him. It had been Lizzie who had shot Hannah, not him. And Lana had been too surprised, and kept the information to herself planning to not confront Liz about it.
And now she was going to sacrifice herself so that all of this could finally end. All this misery everyone was putting up with, could finally come to a stop. To Lana, it seemed like only yesterday when that moment with her aunt had happened.
So the various aunts and uncles that had arrived with Nany and Nana were still spending time in the mansion, holding all the other buisness of the gang because now, both Lana and Damien were too busy to be able to do it like they had for some short time.
Lana had been talking to her favourite aunt Susan when Max, Aunt Susan's son had rushed inside the room holding a small black gun. He had smirked Lana's way and come to sit on Susan's lap.
"What's up Max? Who gave you the gun?" Susan had asked. Max had smiled victoriously.
"Damien. He said that Lana has a thing for bad boys and boys with guns. He said I could use it to impress her." He had motioned towards Lana. Her eyes had widened with surprise.
"And why do you want to impress me Max?" She had asked softly.
"Well because I want to take you out on a date. So that you can tell me how to become like you one day." The 7-year old Max had said. Lana had found this more than amusing.
"Like me?" She had asked, and watched Max shrug.
"Yeah. You are brave. Strong. Intelligent. And beautiful." Then he had given her a cheeky smile. Lana had chuckled.
"Well, you think too good of me." She had said back.
"It's because you are." Max had paused. Then looking expectant, he had whispered.
"So, are you ready to go out sometime?" He had asked.
Lana had thrown back her head and laughed, "I'm afraid, I won't be able to Max. You know heavy schedule." She had said, slowly getting up. "But put that gun away. There is too much good in you." And she had walked off, thinking how Max didn't know who she really was.
Slowly smiling to herself now, sitting in the car that was coming to a stop, Lana's mind flashed with images of Hazel and so many other people who had been in the room with her.
If only Max knew what he was talking about. If only.
Lana exits the car, still thinking about everything. The road outside this private airport looks isolated as Lana enters the airport. Everything happens normally. The security check in starts with Lana's fingerprints and it carries on that way. No humans involved. Because this plan had to be hidden. From everybody.
Lana enters the main area and stalks slowly to her hospital. Then suddenly, from the corner of her eye, Lana notices a flicker of movement. She turns around sharply and registers the sight.
Across the field that Lana had just crossed to reach her helicopter, a man in black suit was standing. Lana could clearly see the shine of a pistol sticking out from his waistband, she could see him smirking.
"You didn't get the message, I suppose?" The man asked. Lana was confused.
What was he talking about?
"Yes, I did. I'm alone." She answered. She wasn't scared. She was sure he wasn't the man who was after her. He wasn't Dean.
She watched as he lifted his hand and signalled something behind him. Suddenly a group of fifteen men all dressed in black filed in. But that didn't surprise Lana. The fact that two of the men held on to some very familiar unconscious faces, did.
Macy and Melissa, both looked unconscious and even from afar Lana could see blood over their clothes.
"Well, I found these two. Following your car. Put up great fight, I must tell you. But then I got them." He laughed, throwing back his head, "One in the chest. The other in the head." The man said, laughing again. "You can go now. Boss doesn't like waiting. He just wanted me to show you that."
Without saying anything, Lana turned around and mounted her helicopter. Within minutes, she was at a considerable height, but she could still see the men standing just like that. She smirked.
They were doing what she thought they would. She pressed down the green button that she had upgraded there herself and aimed at the clearing where the stood, down below.
Something dropped and Lana looked back only to register the flames soaring high from the explosion. Then she brought her hand to her chest and muttered a prayer for her dead friends.
A tear slipped down her cheek and she brushed it away.
