THIRD OF AUGUST
~MAIA~
"Maia Ann Jacklyn Oberain." My name was called out and I took a step forward. Opening the door to the hall on the other side, I stepped in.
Tears were running down my face as I kept walking forward, towards the lawyer who was sitting at the far end of the big hall.
I stopped right in front of his desk and looked down at the contents spilt on the desktop.
There were ten multicoloured files stacked at one side of the desk, hundreds of paper spilt around the top, pens of different colours were peaking from between the white pages. But even through the chaos on his desk, the lawyer seemed to find what he needed.
He flips out a white paper with Lana's name on the top and gives me a pen. Without explaining anything he looks towards the side, gets up and goes towards a cupboard at the side of the room.
I watch him as he opens a drawer and takes out a bunch of silver keys. He comes back to his desk and sits down in his luxury chair.
Now I take a proper look at the paper in front of me.
WILL
LANA WILSON
ANDREA FRANCISCO OBERAIN
MAIA ANN JACKLYN OBERAIN
Inherits the Wilson's Residence.
She shall inherit the mansion at the age of nineteen.
My love for you is abundant.
It's a spectrum of bright colours and possibilities.
-Lana
The attachment to this paper was a law document lawfully assuring that I have taken the inheritance from the said lawyer. I hurriedly sign the attachment and take the paper which has the note from Lana.
"Here." The lawyer says and holds out the bunch of keys for me to take. I reach out to take it but he holds it back making me look up at him with confusion.
"Yes?" I question him irritatedly.
He huffs and says, "Andrea said a lot about you Maia. And one of those things that she told me was that you are strong." He paused. "It's been a year. It's time for you to move on with life and embrace it. Not put it on hold like you have done." And having said this he gives me the keys.
Taking it in my shaking hands I head out of the room.
I close the door behind me and I watch as Xavier gets up from his chair. He sees me crying and striding towards me engulfs me in a hug.
I try to seek warmth from the embrace but I can't. So I pull away and look at him.
"I need to go somewhere." I say.
"That's alright. I can take you there." He offers but I shake my head at him.
"I need to do this alone." I say. Xavier looks at me with concern but nods his head. I can see his eyes reflecting the many questions that he wants to ask but I don't acknowledge them. I need sometime. I really do.
"I will take the bus that goes that-"
"No. You take my car. I will call one of the gang members to come pick me up." He says and steps back handing me the car keys. I nod at him, give him a quick kiss and start moving out.
