Stay Together for the Kids - Blink-182
~*~
Since the first time he laid eyes on Jeffrey Grace, Alex didn't have a clue how the relationship between them would play out. He hated Jeffrey on sight, mostly due to the undeniable jealousy within him. But as he sat next to the curly haired man on the first class seat, Alex couldn't help but reconsider his attitude toward Jeffrey. He was a bit arrogant and sometimes cocky, also incredibly annoying, but he wasn't all that bad. The only actual reason why Alex hated Jeffrey was because he also held an infatuation with Abella.
The first class cabin was pretty packed, almost every seat was filled except an empty window seat by a strange looking man with bright blue hair. Alex decided that sitting with Jeffrey couldn't be worse than sitting with a stranger. He didn't expect Jeffrey to strike up a conversation with him while they sat beside each other for about seven hours. So when Jeffrey pulled out his iPod and put on a pair of large black headphones, Alex wasn't surprised. He was just bored and trying desperately to ignore the frightful thoughts that swarmed his mind.
Alex sighed and sunk deeper into the comfortable plane seat. His leg shook up and down from the nerves that slowly began to creep up on him. The woman across from him glared at Alex, clearly bothered by his restless leg. Alex simply rolled her eyes and ignored the redhead, not caring whether she was bothered by something so insignificant.
His eyes darted to the window, instantly regretting his choice to look outside once he saw how high they were in the sky. Alex swallowed hard and quickly looked away. He grabbed a hold of a small string and tugged down the blind of the window, blocking the outside view. It was raining outside, the sound of water hitting against the window seemed to be amplified, along with the faint sound of lighting and thunder.
At that moment, Alex regretted not bringing along his headphones to block out the nerve wrecking sound.
Jeffrey shifted in his seat and turned to look at Alex, fully aware of his strange state. He removed his headphones and turned down the volume of his music.
Alex could feel Jeffrey's piercing stare, but he refused to meet his gaze. He felt ashamed that something so stupid could cause so much fear within him. The last time he ever flew on a plane was when his family had moved to New York. He remembered that plane ride was no where near as terrifying as this one.
Maybe his fear of flying was due to the horrendous weather outside the plane, or the fact that he could never understand how a machine so heavy could easily lift off the ground and into the sky. They were practically floating thousands of feet off the ground, how could one not be terrified of that? Or maybe, just maybe, Alex had to blame the last horror movie he had seen that involved a group of passengers on a private jet. The jet had crashed and passengers had to survive on a small island that was filled with nothing but a tribe of cannibals.
Alex realized that the likely hood of this actually happening was not high. But then again, there was a chance, right? That one percent chance that the plane could crash any second terrified him instead of comforted.
Nothing scared Alex more than plane rides.
"Are you alright?" Jeffrey asked, raising an eyebrow.
Alex nodded and bit down on his index finger, keeping himself from cursing out loud at the other noisy passengers. Beads of sweat prickled down his forehead, his hands clenching tightly to the point where his fingers and knuckles were beginning to ache. They had only been flying for about thirty minutes, but it felt like hours had passed by. He couldn't take it anymore, he was going to break down.
