Payton's P. o. V.
_____________
I'd finished my worksheet in a couple minutes, and put in my headphones for the rest of class. Some of the other kids were still asking about her, mostly a jock and his friend hoping to get a shot at her. She wasn't interested of course, but she seemed like just a pretty fun teacher. Entertaining them for a while.
I'm the kind of person who's kinda friends with everyone. People know me through word of mouth from people I'd once been friends with.
But they know all too well that I'm not to be tempted, and that if I'm giving you advice you should probably take it.
I could see her grow overwhelmed and bored as they kept going and I made the suggestion that they should probably mind their own business right about now.
I wasn't in the mood to be pushed and I guess it was obvious as they took it as their cue to kindly shut the hell up.
Studies have shown hearing them talk for long periods of time does in fact cause the shrinkage of brain cells.
Just saving her from the inevitable.
I guess working with children has made me more patient but today I was feeling awfully short.
She looked at me all too amused and I couldn't help but smile a little to myself.
Smiles like hers are contagious.
After class I stayed behind and waited for her to let me know what she needed help with. When the bell rang I watched as she cleaned off her board and I walked over to lean on her desk. I guess she didn't hear me because she jumped and nearly took my head off with her eraser.
"Calm down, calm down. It's just me."
She stomped her foot and put her head in her hands.
"Oh my god don't do that." We both started laughing and she sat down in her chair.
I crossed my arms and titled my head down at her, looking over her desk.
"Just here to help. I'm your teacher's aid for as long as you need me, so I've been told"—
She looked up for a moment and started organizing some of the papers on her desk, giving a little chuckle.
"Can you tell I need it?" I shrugged.
"I mean it's not that bad. You just need to get used to the room, and I'm sure you will."
"Well thank you." She smiled and stood up, realizing then we were -much- closer than she thought.
