chapter 14

It was a madhouse After all of the police and law enforcement showed up. No one was allowed in, while everyone was getting checked and picked up. The squad, Dante and me where still in the gym. Everything seemed to real for this to be happening. There were still questions that needed to an answered. Everything was a god damn mess. And It felt like this was all on me. 

" Thank you. Will keep in touch" Alex walked over to the both of us. I couldn't look him in the eye. When the door shut and it was only us. I took off the mask that had been squeezing the life out of my face. 

" What happened?" 

Dante and I looked at each other " the power went out. someone played with the grid. Ended up like this"  Was all I could muster out. My eye's darted around, the bombs where yet to be found. Yet it could have been one big Bluff to get to me. " it's my fault" 

" you didn't do anything" Dante grabbed my hand. 

" lryia all of this isn't your fault. none of it is" 

" that's what it feels like" I crossed my arms over my body, it didn't help. 

Alex's hands dropped down his face " well this has been a long day for all of us. Dante can you take Lryia and Jack home, please. "

" yes sir" 

Alex looked at me " get some rest and will talk about everything later" 

" right" I shifted back into my normal self and started walking towards the back of the school and when I found Jack and Dante with him. Jack ran up to me and hugged me until I no air left. 

" what happened to you?" Jack asked 

" I hid in a closet...  " I hated lying to him 

" can we leave?" 

Dante gave a smile to the both of us " of course" 

Everything was quiet, on our peaceful little street. Dante and I hadn't said a word to each other since we left the school. We all knew no one was going back for a while. Because we knew this was a bluff, or at least that's what we thought. The bomb squad had found nothing under the school or in the surrounding area. It could be days or weeks until they would let us back in. Now, we had to find the bombs and the lady who showed up in Mea's office. Everything was slowly adding up. 

Dante was nice enough to order pizza, Thanks to Mea being in the ICU and Alex working to find a new lead but had to do this under the radar. From the audio all 3 of us herd and the uniforms they wore. They were definitely from Pearl city and probably employed by Blackburn to fight their part of the war. Most likely they do fight for the court on their behave's and don't even know it. 

I dragged my hands down my face, The footage from Meas office was questionable. Of course, the only footage that there was Mea sitting at her desk doing things on her computer. Some other meetings about the school's wellbeing, my well being. One lady happened to catch my eye before the line went dead. The same Lady I found in her office when the attack started. 

" found anything?" Dante asked 

It was now almost 8 and the night was still young " maybe" 

Dante pulled my computer towards him and frowned " maybe a facial recognition might help" 

" do it" 

On the side of the screen, her face showed up. I was right. 

" that's her" 

" Marlene love" he paused " Works at Blackburn, doesn't say what she does or her address but doesn't even have a criminal record" 

" Well, she could be a possible lead" 

" we could be chasing a ghost here" 

" a ghost that could change everything, what she said. She knows who I am. Why would she come here in the first place?" 

" I don't know." he rubbed the back of his head " maybe she saw the school as a target where she knew where they could make a scene and get you there. You just happened to be there" 

I looked up at Dante " well why don't we check out Blackburn?" 

He smirked " Well if we could find something maybe go public with this"

I looked at Alex as we sat in an underground bunker, the fighting has only gotten more intense in the past couple of months. More heavy tanks are in the streets. More civilians end up in the crossfire and the death toll keeps getting higher on all sides. and here we were sitting in a bunker listening to the sounds on shell fire and tank fire unleashing hell above us. Rocks continued to fall down on our faces. Everyone was shakey from the mission briefing we had before coming down here. The target was the Blackburn labs here in Pearl. Our inside man was lucky enough to get in. He was saying that scientists were getting more and more impatient on their subjects. and they had plans for some sort of bomb.  Now our mission was to destroy this lab but also get the test subjects out and alive. 

" Get ready" 

We all stood up. after the gunfire stopped the door above us opened and I jumped out, just like this again. In front of me was a tank's a lot of tanks. All of the firing happened all at once. I held up my shield for as long as I could, which wasn't very long. We both stopped when my shield dropped and they stopped firing. Everything was dead silent, not a bullet shot for yards. After my communication device buzzed in my ear, I smiled and charged at them. I attacked them with everything I had. Using my light whip I managed to destroy most if not all of the tanks and left of them. And I continued to take everyone else out with an electric pulse at shot out when I jumped and landed on the ground. 

I stood in the dent in the ground I had made, all of the tanks where either on fire or the barrels was bent ready to explode. I looked around at my surroundings. I couldn't sense anyone for at least three miles. 

"were clear" I called out. 

One by one they jumped out in their personal combat gear. 

"let's move"

I looked at the computer screen, well multiple of them. I had many things going at once. trying to find this ghost person proved much more difficult then we thought. At first, we had a lead then some more things lead to more people and more things that could lead to the court. I dragged my hands down my face and leaned back in my chair. I was over thinking everything and I wanted it to stop. 

My head turned as elevator doors clicked and Dante walked into the room. Lucky for both of us he had food and coffee. If we Wanted to last tonight and through tomorrow coffee was a must. Dante looked at my screens of digging for the past couple of hours. Faces pulled off to the side listed on possible suspects and ones we knew for a fact was the ring of everything. On another screen, I had The CEO of Blackburn, my father along with other people. People who are currently active in the court and their current standings. 

" you've been busy" he smiled 

I yawned " I guess "

He leaned back on the counter " anything new?" 

" well I managed to make a list of who we know for sure who is in this court and their current standings" 

" that's news to me" 

I turned back to the computer and pulled over Marlene's information. " Marlene was just entered into Blackburn top floors" 

" and?" Dante asked

, "these are floors only the top systems and the access is very restricted." 

He shifted uneasily " you want to break into Blackburn and hack their computers and find out who has access ?" 

 I smiled at him " why else?"
