*Natalie's POV

"Come on Juggie. This is the simplest part." I hit him with my pencil. Toni and I were currently at Jughead's, and we were both trying to help him memorize the laws.

"A serpent never shows cowardice. If a serpent is killed or imprisoned, their family will be taken care of." He stopped.

"Come on, focus." Toni tried getting him back on track.

"Jughead, why the hell am I here? You're just wasting my time by not taking this shit seriously." I threw the paper where I had written the laws on the table and went to the fridge.

"Nat, I swear I am. It's just... first the beast and now these stupid laws."

"No Jughead, I don't think you fucking are!" I slammed the fridge door closed, not finding any beer. "This might seem all like a joke to you but to us it's much more."

"Why the sudden change of heart, anyways?" Toni asked him. "Why go from conscientious objector to being a full fledged member?"

"Cause of something you said." I looked at Toni and she looked away nervously. "My dad was the only person that was keeping idiots like Sweet Pea in line." What? "Someone needs to step up."

"So you think you can just waltz right into the serpents and take charge?" I scoffed.

"Well who else is gonna keep an all out war from erupting." He yelled in frustration.

"What the hell do you think I've been doing?" I yelled back.

"Oh yeah, says the one who pulled that little stunt with her psychopath of a boyfriend!"

"You little!" I charged at him but Toni got in the middle.

"Hey, hey, hey..." she put an arm out in front of me.

"You!" I yelled at her. "You're supposed to be my friend!" She looked a bit taken back.

"Nat, I a-"

"No Toni, you're not. You know how much this means to me. You out of all people should know!" I grabbed my jacket off the kitchen chair and stormed out.

*Toni's POV

"What the hell was all that about," Jughead asked as Natalie stormed out.

"This," I motioned to the table that had all our notes we written for Jughead. "Means so much to her. You see Jughead she has been looking out for the serpents since the very beginning." I sat back down next to Jughead. "The serpents have given her a nickname." I paused. I don't think I should be telling him this, but I mean everyone else knows about it. So why can't Jughead?

"What do they call her?" Jughead asked.

"They call her the queen of the serpents. I know, it's weird. She absolutely hates the damn name but she has rightfully fought for it. She's proved herself many times to your dad, Jughead. He trusts her. She's practically his right hand for everything." I decided to keep it brief and not tell him everything. Natalie's already pissed at me. I don't need her getting any more pissed.

"That still doesn't answer my question about why she ran off like that."

"Jughead, you said she wasn't doing shit. Obviously that's gonna affect her some type of way." I decided to change the subject. "So let's just keep studying, because you're gonna have to recite them to her."

"What?" He looked at me in shock.

"Let's take it from the top, shall we," I laughed at his expression.

*Natalie's POV

"What is the fourth law," I screamed in his face.

"No serpent is left for dead." He yelled.

"What is the fifth law?" It felt pretty good, to get a chance to yell at Jughead again, especially since it was in front of all the serpents.

"A serpent never betrays it's own!"

"What is the sixth law?" Come on Jughead...

"In unity there is strength." He answered

"In unity there is strength," Everyone in the bar repeated the law as well.

"Looks like you know the laws, Jug." He smiled. "Now let's see if you survive the next trial." I smirked. I patted his shoulder and turned him to the side. Sweet Pea and the other two serpents got out of the way.

"Retrieve the knife." I whispered in his ear, laughing as I pulled away. Karma was a bitch.

"What," he looked at me as if I was crazy.

"Retrieve the knife." I smiled. He looked at me then back at the tank before finally getting closer to it.

"The rattle snake bit me, Toni. A fucking rattle snake." I heard Jughead begin to tell Toni.

"Oh chill out," I walked up to the two, handing Jughead a bandage wrap for his hand. "You did good Jughead. I'm proud of you."

"Listen Nat, I didn't mean to h-"

"Forget about it. It's all water under the bridge. You're a serpent now. That's all that matters." I patted his back and walked away smiling.

Oh Juggie, the show hasn't even began yet.
