~Eliza POV~
Eliza paced her room. No tears streaked her face, and she meant to keep it that way. She couldn't break down.
It was about half an hour since Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy has gotten home from the park.
Eliza knew that her sisters saw that she was broken, but she hid it. She hid it as best she could.
Of course, the scene was stuck in the front of her mind, as if her broken heart had super-glued it there and had no intention of releasing it. Why couldn't she see anything else?
In frustration, Eliza put on music, as she always did when she was stressed. She picked the Les Miserables album, of course, though she only listened to the rousing military songs, keeping away from the love tunes. She couldn't handle that right now. But she stopped when I Dreamed a Dream played. Her finger hovered over the fast-forward button. Eliza let a few bars play. Then she skipped the song.
Was this how Angelica felt when Laff broke up with her? Eliza didn't think so. Angelica didn't cheat on him, and it was Laff's paranoia that ended them.
Eliza and Alex were officially dating, but that was over. Eliza was erasing herself from Alex's story. She just wondered how long she could last without him. Every time in middle school when she tried not to think about him, her determination collapsed the first time she saw his face that day.
After a few minutes she relaxed, her breathing becoming steady once more. She still refused to let herself think about Maria kissing him.
At nightfall though, she broke the dam holding back her resentment, betrayal, anger, and sadness all at once. Before this she had been forcing her heart back while allowing her mind to think coldly and with no feeling whatsoever.
Tears finally fell down her face as she cried herself to sleep.
