~Eliza POV~

Eliza sat in her room, staring into space. She was dressed still in her school outfit, even though it was almost 11pm.

Eliza heard a sound at her window. At first she thought it was a bird. Then she heard another. And another.

She looked out the window and down to the sidewalk. She saw a figure throwing pebbles at her shutters. His face was barely visible by the gentle glow of a lamppost, but Eliza knew who it was.

She hurried downstairs, careful not to wake her sisters. She put on her shoes before going outside, shutting the door softly behind her. She picked up a stick, just in case it wasn't who she thought it was.

Just as she'd thought, it was Alex. She lowered the stick in her hand.

"What?" she hissed at him.

"Can we talk?" he asked.

"Fine," she said.

He took a step in her direction. Eliza backed away.

"Why are you out here?" she asked.

"Only time I could get you alone," he said.

Eliza remembered the times that day that she'd walked away from him at school.

"Can we stay out here?" Eliza asked. "Angie and Pegs are sleeping."

"Yeah, okay," he said.

"What did you want to talk about?" Eliza said.

He hesitated. "Saturday."

Eliza backed away. "If you've come to talk about that, just know that we're done. I'm no longer your girlfriend."

Even from that far away, she could see Alex's face fall.

"Well, I wanted to tell you why."

"Okay," Eliza said warily.

"It was a dare, for Maria to kiss me," he started.

"I know that," Eliza said.

"When I kissed her back, I didn't know it was her. I thought, I hoped, it was you. I wasn't thinking."

No you weren't, Eliza thought. That did make it a little better though. She was glad that he didn't purposely kiss Maria. Still, she didn't know what to think about him kissing her back without knowing who it was.

"Okay," she said.

He walked up to her until he was about an arm's length away. Eliza didn't move.

"I'm sorry," he whispered.

Eliza met his eyes before crashing her lips on his. He kissed back passionately, and she wrapped her arms around his chest.

The moment was perfect, silent and dark. For once, Angelica and Peggy weren't there to interrupt. Eliza wanted to stay there forever.

She melted into him, pressing her body against his.

After what seemed like an eternity, she pulled away, gasping for breath. Alex let her breathe for a few seconds before kissing her again.

Eliza's heart hammered in her chest as she kissed him.

That continued for several minutes, before Eliza went back inside and Alex left.

Eliza looked in the huge mirror that leaned in her wall. Her face was flushed, and completely red. She touched her cheek softly.

She'd let herself love Alex again.
