~Eliza POV~

(one year later)

There was a new girl in the school. Maria Reynolds. She had straight light brown hair that reached her waist, a pretty face with a light complexion sprinkled with freckles, and brown eyes.

She was friends with the popular girls at the school, which meant that Eliza avoided her. Maria didn't seem particularly hostile towards Eliza, though. She was friendly enough, but Eliza was wary.

Everyone else seemed to like her. She was always surrounded by peers.

The sisters and Theo remained close. Eliza noticed her other classmates joining Maria's group of friends.

She just hoped Alex wouldn't.

Or John and Laff.

Angelica and Laff were over. It was clear that they were not getting back together anytime soon. Angelica seemed fine with it. She said as long as both of them were happy, she was fine being single.

Peggy and John's relationship was as strong as steel, maybe stronger. Eliza could tell that they loved each other. She was almost one hundred percent certain that they would get married someday.

She didn't like when she slipped into thinking about the future. It held too many possibilities, and she felt like she wasn't ready for all that yet.

Theo was faring well too with Aaron. Eliza never thought she'd see Mr. Burr as much as at ease as he has been this past year.

Her own love life was as good as she thought it could be.

Overall, Eliza felt that nothing could be better.

At lunch one day, Maria invited Eliza to sit with  her at lunch, which Eliza had accepted.

"Hey," Maria said as Eliza sat down.

"Hi Maria," Eliza replied.

"So, I wanted to talk to you."

Eliza nodded. "About what?"

"How do you find good friends? I mean, I see you and your sisters and Theo together all the time. You four are inseparable. I don't know if I have that same bond with the others."

"Well, I have barely more then close family as my friends. Theo is my sister in her own right. You have to find people that you feel the same way with. They should be like your extended family. If they don't make you feel like that, then don't bother. It'll never work that way."

Maria sighed. "Thanks, Eliza."

Eliza smiled. "You know what, call me Liza."

Maria smiled again. "Would you mind having me as another extended sister?"

"Of course not, Maria."

Maria's face brightened.

"We're having a little meeting by the park near the baseball field. You can come this weekend if you want to." Eliza offered.

"I'll come!" Maria squealed.

Eliza gave her another smile before the bell rang for class.
