~Alex POV~

Alex talked to John Laurens at lunch, after seeing Eliza talking with Maria and decided that she probably didn't want to see him.

"Hey," John said as Alex sat down.

Alex didn't say anything. He glanced back at Eliza

"So, you want to talk about what happened Saturday, don't you?" John asked.

"Yeah," Alex said.

John lowered his voice. "You kissed Maria back, didn't you?"

"Yeah,"

"Did Eliza break up with you?"

"She didn't say anything. I tried to talk to her earlier but she walked away." Alex said.

"Well, why did you kiss Maria?"

"I don't know. I was distracted and at first I thought it was Eliza. I kissed her back without knowing who it was." Alex said. "I would've rather stepped backwards and fallen into the creek."

"Peggy told me that she thinks Eliza still loves you," John said.

Alex tried to stop his hopes from getting up. Still, they skyrocketed. "How could she? How could she feel anything but hate for me?"

John laughed. "Dude, you've dated her for a year, you have to know that she's pretty forgiving."

"Maybe, but I've never done anything like this before," Alex said.

"I would hope not," John muttered.

"So, what do I do?"

"Go talk to her," John urged. "Go tell her that you didn't mean to and that you love her still. Don't you?"

"Yeah, I do," Alex said hesitantly. "Another problem is Maria. I don't know why she kissed me. Was it a dare?"

"I was there, it was a dare." John assured him. "I talked to Maria afterwards and she said that she didn't like you, you know, in that way. She was just proving she could do kinda an extreme dare. She also didn't know you and Eliza were dating. I didn't tell her, I could just tell she didn't know."

"Okay," Alex said. He still didn't want to talk to Eliza in front of Maria, heck, in front of anybody. He'd gave to get her alone.

That might be a challenge. She was always with her sisters or one of her friends.

After lunch he slipped a note into her locker, just like he did back in freshman year, when they started dating. When he watched her open it though, she tore it to shreds and threw the scraps away. Alex winced, but he couldn't blame her.

He tried to talk to her in the hallway again, but she almost hit him to escape.

"Go away, Alex," she said, though her tone was sad.

How in the world could he talk to her?
