It sucks not having family with you to celebrate a special holiday. Chinese New Year, to be exact. Chinese New Year was the best because for me, it's always with family. We all gather around the table and in the center is the hot pot.

All around that hot pot is the foods. Crab, shrimp, beef, pork, you name it. And around the table is my family. I love them a lot. But this year, I can't exactly celebrate with my family. I'm in my dorm room in a whole new country.

I'm studying abroad and I ended up in South Korea. I already know some of the language, but I was paired with a Korean classmate and he doesn't know it, but crush of mine. He's completely fluent and was willing to help me navigate through this unfamiliar area.

Well, not completely unfamiliar. I've been to China before, so that's a start...

But overall, kinda new to me.

I was on my bed, doing homework, when my roommate came into our room. Oh, and his name is Hoseok, by the way.

"Hey Hobi," I said, not looking up from my laptop.

"Hey Y/N! Did you do anything while I was at my parents house?" That instantly triggered me. I started tearing up.

"Um," I felt a tear ready to come down, but tried my hardest to keep it back. "No, I didn't."

Shit shit shit.

Keep yourself together, or I swear.

"Oh," he chuckled and lied on my stomach next to me on my bed. "You're not trapped here, you know? You haven't done much around Korea since we got here three weeks ago!"

I shrugged. "I just... I don't know what to do around here."

Hoseok beamed. "There are so many things you can do around here! Hey, maybe I could take you to meet my parents! I've already told them about you and they seem interested to meet you! Sounds nice?"

I sniffled and I gave a hum as a response. I was actually about to cry.

"Y/N, are you okay? You've been so quiet today."

"It's just that," I finally let a tear out. "Chinese New Year is so soon and I'm too broke to get plane tickets all the way back to the US.."

Hoseok sat up and hugged me really tight. His embrace was warm and comforting.

"Oh.. I'm sorry, Y/N," he said. "But cant they come to you?"

"The weather conditions are bad. Plus, my sister has school."

I started sobbing. I missed my sister, despite how annoying she is. I missed everyone back in the US.

Hoseok starts rubbing my back as I hid my face in his chest. Good thing I'm bare-faced..

"Shh, don't cry, Y/N..." his hand kept rubbing my back. And as much as I didn't wanna cry, I did.

"H-Hobi..." I stuttered.

"Yes?"

I wiped my tears with the sleeve of my hoodie.

"You're the best. I say that because you're literally holding me as I cry," then I start laughing. "Thanks. I mean that."

He strokes my hair and puts his head on mine. I blush a bit. "Anytime. And I could give you endless hugs, if you'd like."

I nuzzled into his chest more. "At least you're here for Chinese New Year..."

"And I'm happy to be with you."
