🌾 Evelyn 🌾
That Seto guy and Mahad came to me in the morning demanded answers to things I didn't know or understand. Mahad brought me water, but I was starving and started to wonder if I was going to die down here.
I was more concerned about the area which they found me. They spoke that it was sacrad but also said a great evil lied there. Which gave me a small window of understanding that they see me as a threat.
Right.
I heard footsteps which perked my eyes up. I stood up trying to see who was coming but couldn't I stepped back and waited.
It was there. I saw him. The man from the tomb.
I saw him wave away angry face who of course responded with a glare before pulling over a wooden stool siting in front of me.
This man was clearly more important. He was tan, dresses in gold his eyes were intense purple and violet. He was very pleasing to look at.
"Hello. I am pharaoh Atem, and your name is?"
Whoa. A pharaoh? This can't get anymore unbelievable.
"Evelyn" I said softly
A smirk appeared on the pharaoh's face.
"She speaks, would you mind telling me why you haven't been speaking to the guardians?"
He leaned in closer to the cell his eyes pinning me.
"I don't have the answers they want."
I was... intimidated by his features.
His eyebrow raised before leaning back on the stool.
"I see, I should tell you, it is a death sentence to lie to the pharaoh"
Was he seriously trying to scare me? Death is the last of my problems.
I scoffed. "I don't know what you want me to say.
The pharaoh stood up
"Guards, please open the door"
A guard came over with a large key unlocking the door.
The pharaoh came in shutting the cell behind him.
I moved back, nervous now.
"You will tell me what I ask or..."
His hand grabbed my chin
"You shall face a millennium trial"
I pushed his hand back
"Fine"
"Where do you come from?"
"The future, a place called New York"
The pharaoh's eyes narrowed
"The future?"
I crossed my arms "yes,"
The pharaoh took a deep breath
"And why did you come here?"
That's when I saw it.
The thing around his neck.
The puzzle
I reached out to grab it firmly in my hands
"Where? Did you get this?"
The pharaoh's eyes widen
"How? What do you know of this?"
I let go of the puzzle my vision blurried.
"You will explain yourself..."
I slowly nodded holding my head.
"I don't know why I am here...but I do know of your amulet...I solved it"
The great pharaoh's face twisted in fusteration
"You are lying...my father...he's the one who.." his voice trailed off
I could see a glance of pain in his eyes as he looked away. I must of hit a nerve.
The pharaoh's eyes met mine again
"Do you think you are clever? His voice low, his face closer to mine.
"I..I'm speaking the truth"
The pharaoh grabbed my hair squeezing it in his hands pulling my face closer to his I winced in pain
"We shall see...." He shoved me back into the wall before shutting the cell door
"Give her food and water then send her to the throne room for the trial"
I rubbed my head where he grabbed my brown hair now knotted in the curls. Great. That went well.
I was angry. I didn't understand why they were treating me like some criminal. Had I even committed an actual crime?
And this trial?
I knew trials back home we're complicated but justified by a simple notion innocent till proven guilty. Or rather guilty until proven innocent which in my case seemed plausible.
I sat back down on the ground trying to keep my head from spinning. A guard came in throwing me some water and bread.
"Pharaoh's compliments" he spat at me.
Nice.
The bread was particularly disgusting rotten on one side, the water.. murky. I pushed it aside. I wasnt even hungry anymore. I just wanted to be home more than anything.
I just needed to figure out how to get back. I pulled my knees into my chest.
Tears began to pool around me. I hid my face I didn't want anyone to know how hurt I was feeling.
