A sudden chill went down my spine, and I froze in place. I was like a statue now.
A statue who was paralyzed with fear.
Karen squinted at Ruby's bag and let go of Hansel. She pushed hard on his back and hurried to her friend's side. Hansel, however, managed to stay standing up.
Hansel scoffed. "That was so weak." He then let out a whimper and rubbed the lower part of his back with a hand. "S-so weak!"
Ruby and Karen ignored him. Their focuses were on the bag.
"Dang. What the heck happened to your bag?" Karen asked.
"I do not know!" Ruby cried. Her voice echoed throughout the room.
Karen tsk-tsked and slowly shook her head. "You poor dear. Somebody obviously did not like your bag."
I gulped. That somebody is the Creature From Beyond.
Ruby snorted. "Oh, really?" She reached in the closet and pulled out two pieces of clothing. One was a dark blue jacket, and the other one was a red dress with white swirls on it. "Whoever it was hated your taste of fashion!" She threw them to the ground and held her bag close to her.
Just like the bag, the jacket and dress were ripped to shreds.
Karen gasped. "No!" She dropped to her knees and scooped up the clothes. I bet that the clothes were hers. "No. These were my favorites." She sobbed.
Ruined possessions were the least of our worries.
I opened my mouth to speak, but no sound came out. As much as I did not like Ruby and Karen, they needed to be aware of the bones. I desperately wanted to tell them.
The pile of bones that were covered in drool.
I had finally found my voice, when a hand covered my mouth.
The hand belonged to Hansel.
"We need to go," he whispered in my ear. "We need to get away from these psychos..." He pointed at the girls. "...and find our own bags." With that, he uncovered my mouth and took my hand. Together, we ran off in the opposite direction.
My ponytails bobbled up and down, and I became extremely sweaty. I was really nervous, let me tell ya. Not only because of my bullies.
Five seconds later, they realized that my brother and I had left the room and chased us. I could hear their footsteps.
They were close.
Very close.
"Get back here!" Karen yelled.
"This is all your fault!" Ruby exclaimed angrily.
Hansel and I turned a corner.
"How is it our fault?!" he yelled back.
"You had a hunch that we were here!" Ruby explained. "You knew that we were here!"
"We had no idea!" I shot at her.
Ruby shot back. "Do not lie! You were at this house earlier! You searched the house and soon stumbled upon our belongings! You, Gretel, knew for sure that they belonged to me and Karen! So you and your dimwitted twin decided to wreck our things! To get revenge!"
I could not believe what she had just said. She was sounding like an idiot!
Who am I kidding? She and her best friend Karen are idiots! And I am sorry if you are named either Ruby or Karen. I bet that you are nice.
"We did not ruin your things!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. You can tell that I was sick of these bullies. "Hansel and I were surprised that you two showed up!"
"You two were faking!" Karen argued.
"No! We were not! The one who destroyed your things was the Creature From Beyond! The real creature!"
"The creature? Ha!" Ruby said. "You must be hallucinating! There is no Creature From Beyond!"
I then heard a scream. Two screams.
From Ruby and Karen.
Hansel and I kept running. He did not look back. But I did.
And immediately wished that I did not.
I saw the creature - the real deal - eating.
Eating like a maniac.
And Ruby and Karen were the food.
