Silence filled the dark area. The only sound that I could make out was the intense beating of my heart. It felt as if the heart were on the verge of leaping out of my chest.

I breathed heavily. I did not move a muscle. I did not say anything. It was as if I were paralyzed. Struck by lightning.

I quickly reacted and shielded my eyes as bright light came on. The light lit up the area.

"Hi, Gretel!"

"Yah!" I spun around...

...and faced a hideous, disgusting....

Nah. I am just messing with you. It was no creature. It was my twin.

I shook a little. "Do not scare me like that!" I said.

He chuckled and tilted his head to the side. "How can you be scared?" he wondered. "We are in a house. It is just us and that boy. And I am sure that the boy will not harm us."

I was about to reply when I felt something shaking in my pocket. I shoved my hand into the pocket of my blue shorts and pulled out my cellphone. I glanced at the screen.

And had a worried expression on my face.

"Who is it?" Hansel said. "Who is calling you?"

I kept my eyes locked on the screen and lowered the phone.

"Our parents," I replied. "Mom and Dad."
