Chapter Twenty-One

"I cannot believe that you actually convinced me to take you along," Lean said as she drove off into the night.

I could not believe it either. And no, I am not talking about convincing her. I am talking about finding my crossbow in Sarah's bag.

Why did she have it? How did she even get ahold of it? Did she break into my house or something? Question after question came into my mind.

I sighed heavily. Looks like that I was going to have to confront Sarah tomorrow.

"Are you not going to ask me away or what?" the ghost asked me, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh. Uh, yes." I had forgotten for a second the other reason that I went with her in the first place. Not only to help her, but to get some straight answers.

I was sitting in the passenger seat, my crossbow resting on my lap and one arm over it to keep it from falling. I played with a braid as I wondered what to tell Lean.

"Well...you have not yet told me why Mr. Hawk is responsible for you becoming blind."

A smile spread across her face. "I had a feeling that you were going to ask that first," she admitted. She glanced at the dark sky and proclaimed, "Flashback!"

What?

Lean leaned back and closed her eyelids, keeping her ghostly hands on the steering wheel.

What was she doing?!

"Lean!" I called, suddenly on full alert. "Open your eyes! You need to see the road!"

Wait. She was blind.

"Lean! Pull over! Pull Over! Stop the truck!"

"I cannot," she told me soothingly.

"Why can you not?!"

"Because I am having a flashback. You can see my flashback too if you relax and close your eyes."

Relax? Relax?!

"How can I relax if I know that we could end up in a crash?!"

"We will not."

"We could die! Technically, you probably will not because you are a ghost, but I could!"

"Trust me. I have done this before."

That is it. We are going to die.
