Time began to unfreeze. Move slowly. Inch by inch.

I stared at the match that was on its way to the floor. I could hear Maxine and Karla in the distance. They were telling me to get the match before it was too late. Before it touched the floor.

But did I listen to them?

No.

For once, I understood what Nora told me, and she was right.

A couple months ago, I learned in class that fire has no shadow. Why? Simple. Fire is not solid enough to have a shadow. It is impossible!

Also, take into account that Oberious was a nervous wreck when I showed him the fire on the match. Plus, Karla and Katherine both panicked when I accidentally set them on fire. Though, humans themselves can catch on fire too.

I walked backwards, keeping an eye on the match, and watched as both the match and small fire landed on the dark ground. Immediately, a huge fire appeared.

"Run!" I shouted. I ran in the opposite direction. "Run from the fire!" I grabbed Karla and Maxine by their arms, and they ran with me.

"Why did you let the match fall?" Karla asked.

"I will explain later," I said. "Now is not the time."

"Where are we going to go?" Maxine wondered.

"A place where that fire will not hurt us."

To be honest, I had no place in mind that would be safe from the fire. Everything in this realm was a shadow.

Our only hope was to find a way to get back home.

However, the chances of that were very slim.

I looked behind me and saw shadows racing after us. Luckily, the shadows were the shadow people. These shadows had blue eyes, not red eyes.

Out of nowhere, blue butterflies swooped down from the darkness. The butterflies got in front of me and the shadows and formed themselves into the shape of a big rectangle.

I wanted to stop in my tracks. I did not want to crash into the beautiful butterflies. But before I had the chance to do so, I fell forward.

And my vision became white.
