I'll Never Be Your Mate

Chapter 26

Ethan's P.O.V

Two days ago

"What! How come now you are telling me that?!" I hollered over on the phone as my pack member confided the information he got. I heard the boy taken a shaky breath as he stuttered "I - I th-thought they w-were normal friends. I just got the real identity of them". I eyed Aiden, Rose and Melisa as they looked worriedly at me. I sighed, "Okay continue to fill me out" I said before I hanged up the phone.

I turned to them. "Eva and Austin are there with them" I confided the news I just got. Gasped filled in the room as everyone stared with wide eyes at me.

"How come? When? All of a sudden?" Rose sputtered. I sighed and shook my head. I was about to explained "Eva! Seriously why her?" Melisa palmed her forehead dramatically.

"Apparently, they both had joined the kids three days ago" I finally added. "The boy I sent from the pack to surveyed and report me about Ashley and Jake's relationship there, thought they were normal friends who met them coincidently over their stay there"

"Whereas we all know Eva and Austin are the ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend of Ashley and Jake" Rose said wryly. Never one of us liked when Ashley went out with Austin and Jake with Eva.

We had always known Ashley and Jake were mate since they were two years old. I still remember the day as yesterday when dad's old friend Jessie, who is also a witch, came to Jake's two years old birthday. She came to give her blessing, but she saw instantly as she looked at Jake and Ashley playing and chasing each other quite far in the cleared land behind the house. It is where the birthday party was. They were far away from all kids present for the party, who were jumping in the inflatable castle in the other way.

She saw immediately the bond they had and knew instantly they were mate. She saw their future in them. Everyone was present there when she confessed her discovery to everyone, mom dad, Melisa, Rose and Aiden. I was pleased to know my friendship with Aiden will turn into relationship.

We all knew it would be too soon for Ashley and Jake to know that their bonds as they shifted at their young age. They would be too into in each other and weak. They need to learn the world and be independent as all normal wolves before they meet their mate. They were already inseparable for being a toddler. So Aiden's and my family straight away stopped all the meet and go to each other place. This definitely separated Jake and Ashley and put some distance between them. Aiden and I only met during pack meeting and we kept contact through the phone. We thought at reasonable age, we will let them meet where they can make their decisions well.

Eventually as they grow they forget about each other. However as Jake grow into teenager, he took my brother's death hard. He died from loneliness and pain from being away from his mate. She was killed by rogue. Jake got more reasons to despise mate bond as he saw the damage a heartbroken wolf had to go through in his wherabouts. He shielded himself from love and mate and he had changed completely. He became someone we no longer recognized.

He started going into relationship with different girls and woman every day. Age didn't matter to him as he even had one nightstands with women older than him with some years at his young age. This pushed more away the opportunities we thought were right for making Ashley and him to meet.

Though he never failed to show me he would be a great alpha. Even with his change behaviour, it didn't affect his determination in becoming a good leader. He trained hard and fight well without backing down whenever there were attacks from rivals.

Since he was only hurting himself without him realising that, we came up with the plan of marriage and force Jake in meeting Ashley even though the age they reached, it was a bit late for them to finally meet and recognize each other as mate. We knew with Jake's way of living and his mind-set, it will be difficult to change his mind on the relationship of mate and its importance. Also we knew Ashley would be bitter to her bond with Jake.
So we throw them on this vacation trip to bring them closer. We did everything to make them closer. I even sent someone to send me report about their relationship status but I don't know why how we could miss these two persons who could be a serious danger to Jake and Ashley's relationship.
