*That night*
I walk through the door laughing, arms linked with one of my friends from work, Will. "That was great" I giggled, tossing my bags on the kitchen floor. "It really was" he laughed lowly as we sat down. We reminisced on what had happened at work.
A customer came in, only in his boxers and completely wasted. When our manager asked him to leave, he called him a "moose-looking bitch that deserves to live in Antarctica with the penguins." The insult itself wasn't even that funny, but his tone and the way his arms tensed at the word 'penguins' really got to Will and I.
"Be right back" I said and ran upstairs. I take off the uncomfortable black dress from work and toss on one of Ashton's shirts. I breathed in the smell of his cologne as I walked back downstairs. Will was sat at the kitchen table.
"So what are we working with?" he asked as he took out a notebook. Will is a junior at our school, though he looks like he's in his mid-twenties due to his height (a solid 6'5). "Chemistry. Huge test Monday" I explained. "Damn. Good luck. I have a History test" he said, running his hand through his dark brown hair. "Thanks Will. Good luck to you too."
"Oh hello" he giggled as Athena runs over to him from upstairs and jumps on his leg, begging for attention. "That's Athena" I smiled and patted my leg. She ran over and jumped into my lap. "Hi Athena" he said quietly and reached over to pet her. "How old is she?" he asked, looking up at me. His hazel eyes sparkled inquisitively. "She's 5 months" I explained as I looked up from him and Athena to see a very annoyed looking Ashton in the doorway.
"Hey Ash, didn't think you'd be here" I smiled widely, happy to see him. "Hey Kat" he answered quietly. Something's wrong. "Is everything okay?" I asked. He simply shrugged and motioned over to Will.
"Who's this" he gave a fake smile before returning his attention to me. "Right. Will, this is who I talk about way too much-" I began before Will nodded. "Ashton, your boyfriend" he smiled and held out his hand. "I'm Will. I work with Kat." Ashton shook his hand firmly. "I'll be upstairs" he said and turned to walk out.
"He seems nice" Will smiled as he looked down at his History book. "Yeah, he is" I answered quietly, returning my focus to my chemistry work.
After studying, Will packed his things and got ready to leave. "See you Monday. Good luck on your test. You'll do great" I reassured him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Thanks Kat, you too" he said and held his arms open. I walked into them and wrapped mine around his waist before pulling away again. "Bye, Kat." "See you, Will."
I smiled to myself as I closed the door behind him. When I turned around, Ashton was stood behind me. "Jesus you scared me" I chuckled and relaxed. "Do you have anything you want to tell me?" he asked, folding his arms across his chest. I love you. I thought. No, too cliche. Plus, he seems mad.
"Nope, why?" I asked innocently as we walked upstairs. We were stood in the hallway. I placed my hands on his hips and he backed away. "What's wrong, Ash?" He just stared at me. "I don't underst-" I began before he cut me off. "Do you have a thing with Will?" He blurted out. Almost offended he would ever think that, I blinked and took a step back. "Great" he shrugged and shook his head.
"W-What, no" I answered, shaking my head. "He's a junior, he just works with me and I help him with studying. As we're just f-" Ashton piped up again.
"Oh for fucks sake" he groaned and ran his fingers through his untamed hair. I took another subconscious step back. Ashton never swore at me, and if he did he almost immediately apologized.
"Ashton there's nothing between us. We're just friends. What I'm not allowed to have friends now that you boys don't live here?" I asked calmly, trying to keep the conversation civil. "How goddamn oblivious can you be?" he asked, his voice steadily getting louder. "He was all over you. He likes you Kat. I could tell from across the room." So much for being civil.
