The second I woke up I smiled. Today is the day. Today Luke and Ashton graduate and luckily since it's a Friday, we're celebrating all night. I jumped out of bed and walked over to Luke's room, banging on his door. He opened the door already smiling. "You're free today" I smiled and high-fived him before spinning around back to my room. I gently closed the door behind me and slipped on the yellow dress that Ashton absolutely loved. I fluffed my previously curled hair before quickly putting on makeup and heading downstairs.
The stairs were littered with yellow and black glitter and streamers hung from the ceiling. I carefully walked down and to the kitchen. "Hey Kat" Cal smiled. Ash, Mike, Luke, and Amy turned around as I walked in "Hi" I smiled.
"You graduate today" I said and pulled Ashton close. "I do" he giggled and wrapped his arms around my waist. "Aren't you excited?" I asked. "Kat, I might as well tell you now" he sighed, looking down at me with an upset expression.
"What's up?" I asked, pulling away from everyone so we could talk quietly. "Both jobs called me this morning. They want me to work tonight. I have one shift from three to seven-thirty, and then from eight to one. I'm sorry" he frowned, looking down at his feet. "Aw Ash don't worry, it's okay" I smiled, lifting his chin so he would look at me. "I promise I'll be here by one-thirty" he said. "Ashton, listen" I said. He nodded. "Your work is almost an hour away from here. It's gonna be late and you need sleep. If you can't come, don't worry about it we have all weekend."
He smiled and thanked me for understanding before pulling me in for another hug, running his hands through my hair and up and down my back. "You look great by the way" he winked, placing his hands on my lower back. "So do you" I smirked as I turned to walk forward.
We walked back to everyone else and sat on the sofa. "You all okay?" Amy asked. Ashton and I nodded and smiled.
A few minutes later we all walked out to our cars and started the drive to school. Ashton was being oddly quiet.
"Ash is something bothering you?" I asked quietly. "Nope, I'm all good" he said. I could tell he was lying since he didn't even turn to look at me when he said it. "Are you sure?" I asked again, knowing he would say the same thing. "Katrina, I'm fine" he chuckled. "Are you positive?" I asked, just wanting an answer.
"Is the sky blue? Do you have a coffee addiction? Do I love you more than I love most things on this Earth?" he said. "Yes" I mumbled.
Finally -as I predicted- he broke. "My mom is pissed at me" he blurted as he pulled into his parking space. "Why? Is everything okay?" I asked.
"I didn't really talk over the whole graduating early thing with her, and now she's mad about it. I don't understand why she's mad, though. I graduated with nearly all A's, I've been working two jobs for months, plus I've been taking care of Harry and Lauren twenty-four-seven" he groaned as we walked to the front doors.
"I'm sorry Ash. She might just be stressed" I sighed. "She genuinely has no reason to be stressed. She works not even thirty hours a week and when she comes home she barely does anything. I'm sick of it" he ranted, running his hands through his curly hair. "I know Ash, it'll be okay. If you need a break you know that you're more than welcome to stay at ours for a bit. You know Liz and Andy love you" I reassured him.
"This is why you're my favorite person on this fucking planet" he smiled and pulled me into a tight hug. I rested my head on his chest and held him close. "Now let's get in there and make this a day to remember"
Halfway through the day, Ashton and Luke have had three meetings with the principal, and a few of their old teachers.
