It had been a week since the slaughter Yuki was forsed to partake in happened. Since then she had been forced into riggoris emotional training to supress her emotions the way all ROOT nin did. It was stressful and her nerves were shot just thinking of it.

Coming home late from a ROOT mission, Yuki dragged herself towards her room while ignoring the looks from her family. This had become routine, the stares from her family as she came back with bandages littering her body.

Sighing to herself, she shut the door to her room before falling into her bed with a grunt. Weakly raising her hands, she formed a few hand signs before a poof of smoke appeared next to her on the bed revealing her main summon Rēi. Rēi, as well as Yuki's other summons, knew of the undercover mission she was doing and were sworn to secretcy.

Rēi took one look at his summoner before walking over to her and curling around her body protectively. This happened time to time but become more consistent ever since becoming part of ROOT.

It was quiet as Yuki began to drift asleep to the sound of rain, only to be jurked awake by thunder. Clasping her hands over her mouth to muffle her screams of panic as to not disturb her family, she shakily sat up while Rēi coiled his body around her shaking form.

The room was quiet despite the sounds of her panicked breaths which began to regulate after not hearing thunder. Thinking the storm was over, Yuki closed her eyes and tried to regulate her breathing when thunder boomed across the sky.

She froze in shock at the sound. A sound that sounded so much like the bombs she had released on, what she later discovered to be, a civilian town. The way it shook the house, similar to how the ground shook at the expense of the explosion. It took all she had not to fall into a memory of the bombing that she had partaken in not even a day ago when another round of thunder ripped across the sky.

Yuki's breathing turned to shallow and short breaths as she began to hyperventilate and shake in terror at the sound before squeezing her eyes shut and clasping her hands over her ears. Rēi, never having seen his summoner act like this, panicked.

He knew she wouldn't want anyone to see her like this, but she needed help. So, without telling her as she was in no position to think clearly, Rēi teleported them to the Nara complex, more specifically Shikamaru's room. To Rēi's surprise, Shikamaru wasn't in his room sleeping leaving him with a terrified Yuki. Sighing, he glanced at Yuki brefly before spreading out his chakra to locate Shikamaru before dissapearing, leaving Yuki alone in Shikamaru's room.

- Shikamaru's pov. -

I was walking home after being dragged into a meal with Choji and Ino at Yakiniku Q when Rēi appeared before me. Without letting me get a word out, he grabbed me and teleported us. When we got to where he needed me, I saw that we had ended up in my room. As I was about to ask what was going on, thunder ripped across the sky and terrofied whimpers came from my bed.

Whipping my head around, I saw a terrofied Yuki laying in a fedal position on my bed. Without question I quickly rushed over to her just as another round of thunder sounded and she attempted to hold back a terrofied scream.

Gathering her in my arms, I held her close while rocking her in an attempt to calm her down. When I looked up to ask Rēi what happened, I saw that he was already gone. Frowning, I looked down at Yuki before sighing and holding her close, there was nothing I could do for her besides hold her and wait for the storm to pass.

In the darkness of Shikamaru's room, the two sat in silence as the storm ragged on outside. It took a while, but the storm eventually passed and when it did Yuki finally began to calm down. Looking down at her and moving her hair away from her face, Shikamaru wiped away her tears.

"Hey."

"Hi" Came the shaky reply as Yuki's hands still shook as she attempted to stand, only for to Shikamaru to tighten his hold on her, keeping her in place.

"Slow down, you're not going anywhere."

Yuki sighed and leaned back into his embrace, knowing full well that it'd be easier on her if she just listened to him. They sat in silence for a moment before Shikamaru sighed and ran a hand though his hair.

"You want to talk about it?"

"No"

Shikamaru sighed but left it alone before laying down on the bed, taking Yuki down with him.

"Well if you don't want to talk about that, tell me how you've been. I don't see you for two weeks at a time and when I do it's for only a few moments before one of us is pulled away for something." Shikamaru says while tightening his grip on her as if she would be forced to leave any minuet.

Yuki let out a sigh of her own before twisting in his arms to face him. She could see the worry that swam in his eyes while bags hung under his eyes showing that he hadn't been sleeping well. Reaching up, she pulled his hair out of his signature ponytail before running her fingers through it. His eyes closed at the touch before they opened as he stared into her eyes.

"Don't try to dodge the question Yuki." He said while fighting to keep his eyes open. "Please."

It had been a while since he had gotten a good nights rest and Yuki running her fingers though his hair wasn't helping. He had been kept up late into the night the past few days, attempting to figure out what was happening with Yuki. Everytime he saw her, more bandages covered her and the sparkel in her eyes seemed to dim. He was scared, he was scared the sparkle would be gone soon. There hadn't been a time he saw her without it besides at a funeral but even then it had returned a few days later. If she lost her sparkel, he didn't know if she would be alright and that terrofied him.

Yuki sighed again but nodded all the same even though the tired look in her eyes told him all she wanted to do was sleep, but the little sparkel in her eyes gave him hope that she still wasn't to far gone.

"I've been getting more missions from Lady Hokage and there has been things I've needed to do in the Clan regarding being a sage as well as being a member of the head's family."

Shikamaru raised an eyebrow at this but said nothing. He knew she had been getting more missions, that much was clear. But when he had asked Tsubasa about her he didn't mention anything reguarding the sages. Of course he wanted to ask her why she was lying to him so blantenly, but the look in her eyes stopped him.

Her eyes held sadness as well as regret. They were eyes of someone going through trials that couldn't be told to anyone until they were over. Not the eyes of those who had seen war and not those of someone who had been undercover for a while, but somewhere in between.

Sighing, he nodded before pulling her close and resting his head on her shoulder.

They landed there for a while in silence but neither of them minded. They were together and thats what mattered after not seeing each other in so long. The ability to just lay there in Shikamaru's room was enough to bring some peice of mind to Shikamaru and a wave of calmness to wash over Yuki, growing her demons for the time being.
