Eighteen

"Can we go to the pet shop?" I ask him once he had finished his apple. "Sure, let me get the keys. You go get ready." He replies getting up. I grab my shoes off of the floor with some struggle and remember that I'll never have to struggle again with most things with Astro by my side. I get excited again and put my shoes on. James had come over and helped me once he had his shoes on. "Money!" I say loudly before turning around and wheeling to my room, grabbing my backpack with my money in. I was planning on getting some toys and a lead, a collar and a ID tag for Astro even though she already has them from the trainer. I want her to have loads of gear. I may or may not have an unhealthy obsession. We wheeled outside and I transferred into the car and James put my chair into the back. He got in the car and I directed him to the pet shop.

We arrived ten minutes later and were just looking around when I spotted another golden retriever and started squealing again. I looked up at James and he had the biggest grin on his face and was near enough laughing at my excitement. We found the collars and the ID tags alongside the leads so we picked out a matching set. We decided on a very plain black coloured matching set so it wouldn't clash with her gear. We got her a pink bone ID tag which said 'ASSISTANCE DOG' with her name engraved on there. I was near enough squealing again once we walked out the shop. "Let's go to home-sense." James says walking to into the shop next door. "Sure." I say wheeling after him. I stopped down and isle to put away Astro's new stuff in my backpack, James had gone down another isle to look at stuff, when a lady came down the same isle. The isle was a little wider then my chair but she still couldn't get through. She began to stare at me and start huffing and puffing while I was struggling to put my bag on the back of my chair. Then she near enough screams "get out my way!" I look at her shocked and James comes up behind her and sees me then moves her out the way to get to me. I couldn't say anything and could barely move, so I just got wheeled out the isle and outside the shop. I heard her say "thanks" sarcastically as James wheeled me away. Honestly people are crap. James takes me to the car and I get in, making sure to grab my backpack and James puts my chair in the back. James drives me home and once I get inside i go to my bedroom, put my backpack on the floor and get into bed. Gotta find some spoons somewhere. I fall asleep within minutes.

I wake up to the doorbell going off and realise who it is, I let out an excited scream and watch James run to my room with a concerned look on his face, instead of the door. I let out a laugh and when he sees I'm alright he goes back to the front door. He opens it and I hear little paws on our wooden floors in our living room. "Astro come here!" I shout and she runs into my room and goes absolutely crazy when she sees me. Zoomies and all. I let Astro up on my bed and I was petting her and giving her so much love and her tail was wagging so much. When I saw James and Astro's trainer in my doorway smiling at us together. When Astro has calmed down and was just chilling with me, Astro's trainer said "shall I show you some more on how to handle her and her new tasks and tricks she's learned?" "Of course!" I squeal. I tell Astro to get off the bed and transfer to my wheelchair and we all go into the biggest space of the house, the living room.

Once we had gone through how to handle her and all her commands, the trainer said goodbye and gave us all of Astro's stuff that she had for her. I made sure she knew she could see Astro whenever she wanted to and all she had to do was call me and she assured me that is what she would be doing. Once she had left I went and got Astro's collar with her ID tag on there and swapped it out for her old one. "How about we go on a wheel?" James asks putting his shoes on. "Sure!" I reply grabbing her harness from the bag and putting it on Astro, then attaching the lead onto it. I put her in a sit stay while I get help from James with putting my shoes on. I release her and take her lead and James wheels me out of the house.

On our walk I think we just enjoyed Astro more then anything. She was getting pets all the time and her tail was wagging non stop. She was sniffing all the bushes and living her best life. Once we got home Astro slept and so did I. Today was exhausting but in a good way.
