"I don't want what we have to end, ever." Steph said as we pulled up before my parents house.
I looked ahead noticing both cars of rick and Angela's in their driveway. "It won't, just don't give up on me."
We connected eyes as Steph leaned over kissing my cheek.
"Let's go meet the in laws."
His words forced me to inhale deeply feeling uneasy about that statement alone.
"My home life isn't the best either."
"None of ours are. Baby relax, nothing you say can push me away."
"Don't say I didn't tell you so."
We departed from the car heading up the breezeway of what I suddenly began to feel of hell.
One ring of the doorbell and within moments my mother arrived.
Her eyes landed on Steph first before the unhappy look of utter disgust became a battle to hide on her face.
"Madisonnn??!" My mother called out in the fakest tone I'd ever heard from her.
The door opened as she stepped out.
To decrease the level of awkwardness I managed to speak up, "Hey mom, you remember Steph."
"I do, how are you?"
"I'm good ma'am thank you, how have you been?" He replied stepping forward and taking her hand to cuff briefly out of respect.
"Good, managing. What brings you by Madison?"
"Well if I could come in I intended to check on dad." I replied in sarcasm visibly noticing how my mom held her tongue.
"Come in he's in the living room. I'm trying to get him to take it easy he's been recovering slowly." She emphasized.
I followed my mother in with Steph falling slowly behind me observing the statue of my child hood home.
"Dad!" I gasped lowly yet excited to see the once 6'5 man resting and visibly outside of his normal health.
My dad eyes awoke and a smirk appeared across his face.
"Hey my lady." He smiled sitting up and embracing me in his big friendly giant arms.
"How are you old man?"
"I'm better with the touch of you. How have you been?"
"Good, I've been doing great. I'm sorry just getting around to checking on you. I've missed you."
"I've miss you more little girl. You look great. Everything okay?" My dad suddenly asked as if a lightbulb went off in his head and he was referring to my finances.
"I'm great dad in every aspect."
"Who's this, how you doing son?" My dad asked realizing the presence of Steph.
"I'm good big man, you holding up?"
"Yeah if these damn doctors would release me I would be. Take a seat let me interrogate you. Refresh my memory of how the law works."
We all chuckled at my father's sense of humor as Steph took a seat adjacent to him.
"Madi let me have a word with you." My mother announced.
I exhaled knowing any word with her was nothing good.
She led me into the front area where silence surrounded us and the animal within her unleashed.
