"Slow down baby you still have to pick the kids up." Steph chuckled at the dosage of my 5th shot. I'm not sure if it was my nerves or just the fact that I was uncomfortable sharing drinks with the woman who could have possibly been screwing my fiancé. After all Steph had called her name out the other morning and I had yet to ask him about it.
The drinks were settling in my system as I felt the calmness rest over me.
"I can handle my liquor, don't worry."
"Yeah well those got damn shots gone sneak up on you. I can't let you drive, listen ... Cin! Cin!" Steph called over the music grasping Cindy's attention who's was on ordering another bottle.
"What sir?"
"He's always bothering you!" Erin chuckled referring to Steph tugging on Cindy's shirt.
"When isn't he, what do you want Steph?"
"I need you to take over, I'm out."
"Nooo, you are ruining the party- we're about to pop open some rose, —Madison!" She called with the biggest smile, "Madison do you want rose, you look like a rose gold type of girl, shall we open this bottle?" She giggled grasping the bottle Erin had returned with.
"Actually I will, I don't see why not?" I responded noticing the look of discomfort on Steph's face.
"We have to go pick the kids up that's why not."
"Well why can't you, I'll stay here babe."
"And while you're here getting drunk at my job what do you suggest I do? bring them back here, no. Listen Madison you're done drinking, you're a mother act like it. It's time to go pick up our kids. Cindy is a partier it's her job, we need to go." Steph voiced sternly before turning to Cindy.
"You need to go lite on the drinks, we have an opening tonight and a drunk owner isn't an attractive look."
Steph was attempting to be discreet but I heard every word. Although I was feeling a buzz I was still coherent and becoming pissed off by the second.
"Erin no more drinks for her!" Steph yelled while imitating the cut off with his hand movements.
"He is not my father, I'm your boss, if I say I want a shot I'm getting a shot.. look, "Cindy grinned taking a gymnastics stand to prove she was still stable. "Is Papa Steph like this with you Madison?" She asked giggling.
I gleamed at the marvel shaded floors before at Steph as she awaited my response. "Are You ready.... Papa." I asked him.
"Yea... I'll meet you at the car."
"Why can't you walk me?"
"Because I have to lock up a few things."
"Why can't Cindy, hey cindy! —you don't mind locking up for Steph do you?" I referenced.
"Oh Madison Steph doesn't give me his major keys. He thinks woman are too stupid to know what to do with them." She joked turning back to her bar stool where the opened rose gold awaited her.
Steph stared at me blankly uttering, "Go to the car, I will meet you there let me finish up here."
I didn't even bother to argue. As I took what seemed to be the longest stroll from the lounge to my car I couldn't help but think that Steph was the first relationship I had ever been in. I didn't know how to handle myself as a "girlfriend" yet even more.... as Someone's soon to be wife.
