I stood and watched her as she was painting on a canvas. She was biting the side of her bottom lip, as if she was in deep focus.

"Becca?" I decided to speak which made her jump slightly in her chair as I did. She looked at me with wide eyes.

"What are you doing here?" I asked and walked further into the room.

"What are you doing here?" she asked and crossed her arms.

"I asked you first" I said and crossed my arms too.

She sighed and uncrossed her arms, like she was giving up, and ran a hand through her hair. She had taken out her hair from the bun and it was now hanging down to her chest in big waves.

"I'm stalling" she said and looked at me.

"Why?" I asked and walked over to sit next to her on one of the stools.

"Well, I don't really feel like coming home to my dad, being drunk and making out with a random chick on our couch today, so... I'm just passing time" she said while looking at the floor.

I suddenly understood a lot more about Becca.

"If I'm lucky they've moved to the bedroom when I get home" she continued.

"I'm sorry" was all I could say. I was kind of surprised she was being so honest with me.

"Don't be... So, you turn to answer the question" she said and looked at me.

"I'm just here for my laptop. I forgot it in my locker" I told her.

The room got quiet as I watched her look at her painting. I could see she was fumbling with her fingers like she was nervous.

"What are you painting?" I asked and looked at the canvas filled with colors.

"I haven't found a name for it yet, but see these two?" she asked pointing at the two creatures holding each other on her painting. I nodded.

"Well, they're in love, and they live in a dark forest. Everyone around them have decided that they're not good enough and that they don't deserve each other, but their love for each other keeps them happy" Becca said and pointed to the dim glow around the two creatures, keeping them away from the dark forest which filled most of the canvas.

"So, these two creatures symbolize forbidden love, and the dark forest symbolize everyone who's against them. But they don't care because they choose to focus on the love that they have" I said.

"Exactly!" Becca said and looked me in the eyes with a smile.

I smiled and couldn't help but stare into her eyes. She then turned her face back to her painting, making me wish she wouldn't have.

"So how long do you plan on staying here?" I asked her.

She stood up and walked over to the sink and put down the used brushes in it.

"I don't know, an hour maybe" she said, her answer sounding more like a question.

I looked at my watch, almost 5 pm.

"Well, I only came to get my laptop, and my parents are probably worrying where I am, so I better go" I said, standing up from the stool. She nodded and looked down at the floor.

I walked over to the door and turned to her. "I'll see you then" I said and began walking out the door but stopped when I heard Becca telling me to wait.

I walked back and looked at her as she walked closer to me.

"Uhm, I was just thinking if maybe you wanted to get like... a pizza or something? I'm starving and thought maybe we could eat together or something" she said stumbling over her own words.

I smiled at her. Yes, I wanted to do that, but I still thought about my parents. They would not allow me to stay out.

"You don't have to, it was stupid, forget it" Becca suddenly said and turned around to gather her things.

"N-no I would love to!" I said a little too loud and walked over to her.

"Oh, well great" she said and smiled at me.

"Let me just get my laptop and then we can find a place to eat" I said. She nodded and picked up her black shoulder bag.

I hurried to my locker to get my laptop, but the only thing I could think about was that my parents were going to kill me. When I got to my locker, I pulled out my phone to text my mom. I said that I had run into a friend at school and that I was getting a pizza with them. I knew they would have a million questions when I got home, but it was better than saying nothing and risking them starting a witch hunt for me. I got my laptop and turned off my phone. I really wanted to hang out with Becca, even if that meant getting grounded by my parents.
