Abel has skipped the tutoring lesson and went straight home.
He needed to get his head straight after what had happened the previous night at Arabella's house.
Not only did he see his entire life flash before his eyes but he also saw every wrong thing he had ever done to the people around him.
Abel was plagued with visions that pointed towards an epiphany.
Home alone, he was sitting at the dining table with his meal for the night.
Five slices of pepperoni pizza and a large coke he had bought himself at a liquor store drive-thru.
Shoveling a slice into his mouth, he took two gigantic bites from it and began to chew while he continued to ignore his cell phone that had been going off for the past hour or so.
In a way, he was just excited that his father wasn't going to be home until really late. Meaning he wouldn't have to deal with the verbal abuse and the hateful glares.
But the veil of tranquility that had suddenly surrounded him was broken by the sound of the home alarm alerting Abel that someone had entered the home.
Preparing himself, he got up from his seat and went to check the front door out and that was when he felt his heart stop.
Their green eyes met and the two couldn't contain their emotions.
They took each other into a hug, a long and meaningful hug that Abel had been missing for months already.
"You're home," His words were distorted by the tightening of his throat.
She tried her best to soothe her son's back with her palm, "I've missed you so much!"
Abel kept his mother close to him.
Even though he was suffocating her, she loved getting hugged by her son.
"Mom," He clutched at the fabric of her purple raincoat, "I missed you a lot too."
Separating herself from her son's powerful embrace, she grabbed at his forearms and stood at a small distance away from him, "What happened to your face?"
Abel snickered, "Oh, this."
"Yeah, that." Lynda placed her hands on her hips.
Abel scratched at the nape of his neck, "Me and X-"
Lynda groaned, "What happened this time?"
Abel flinched at that question.
"Uh," He shoved his balled fists into the front pockets of his navy blue joggers.
"Uh...?" Lynda drawled out.
"We just started fighting over some shit-talking."
Abel obviously couldn't tell his mother a word about having a gun pointed at him by some maniac.
Lynda rolled her eyes and pushed her son out of her way as she walked down the corridor to head to the kitchen, "You two are so immature, you guys need to fix whatever issues you have with each other already. Either be friends or bury the hatchet."
