When I first woke up, I knew that today was going to be a bad day.
I woke up screaming in terror, yelling for people who would not come.
"Amy! Andrea! Daddy! Ma!" My chest is heaving and my heart is racing. I'm terrified of my nightmare.
"Hey, hey," A soothing voice sounds from just behind me. "Calm down, Duck. It's okay. I'm here. Phoenix is here."
Phoenix's arms encircle me and pull me closer to him. I can hear his heartbeat on my back.
"It's okay, little brother," Phoenix croons. "It was just a nightmare."
His fingers wipe the sticky tears from my face like Carl used to. His cold fingers numb my flushed cheeks.
I force myself to relax into him, closing my eyes and taking deep breaths as Glenn taught me to after nightmares.
I can feel Stick in front of me and I feel secure by the wall knowing that Oddball and Phoenix were closer to the door.
I fall back asleep but have more violent nightmares.
I wake up again because someone is violently shaking me.
"Ducky, Ducky? Ducky! Andrew!"
It was weird to hear my real name come out of Oddball's mouth in his slightly southern accent.
I peel my eyes open and I become aware of how uncomfortably hot I am.
The blurry face of Oddball swims into view.
"Ducky, can you hear me?" Oddball questioned.
I want to tell him yes, that I can hear him but all that escapes my mouth is a moan. "mmm..."
Then I become aware of the pins and needles in my legs. I try to wiggle my toes to get the feeling back but I'm shocked when white-hot pain shoots up my legs.
"Augh!" I let out a cry of pain.
"What hurts, Ducky?" Oddball begs. His hands are pushing my sweaty bangs out of my face.
"What's going on?" Stick questioned.
"I'm taking Ducky to the infirmary," Oddball informs them. "Phoenix, you go and find Dwight, Martin or Sherry."
Oddball scoops me into his arms, jostling my legs and causing pain so bad that I see white spots. I'm gasping because I'm overloaded with so much pain that I can't breathe.
Someone opens the door for Oddball and he hurries out into the hall.
Every step feels like someone is carving my skin with a knife, I feel like vomiting and passing out at the same time.
Oddball reaches the infirmary but the door is closed and locked. He kicks the door, pounding and begging for the doctor.
"Oddball?" Martin's voice sounds from behind us. Oddball turns around and Martin's face grows a little pale at the sight of me. "What happened?"
"I dunno?" Oddball starts to explain the situation.
"Hey, bub, look at me," Martin commands. I look up at him the best I can. "Is this a pain flare-up of your fibromyalgia?"
I hadn't even thought of that. I had assumed that I had grown out of it.
I shrug the best I can for I'm afraid that if I open my mouth then I'll lose last nights dinner.
"Give him to me," Martin steps forward and holds out his arms. Oddball transfers me into his arms and I let out a screech of pain at the movement. "The doctors not here right now."
