The reunion was not at all what they expected.

Maggie and Glenn didn't expect to reunite with Andrew like this. They thought he would walk through the gates, unharmed with an apology and arms up, ready to be carried.

They didn't want to find him in a large bed, tubes and wires running out of him with bandages around his face.

Maggie lay in the spot next to Andrew on the bed, gently grasping his wireless hand with one hand while playing with his hair with the other.

Andrew was in and out of consciousness. He woke up with a fever at one point and called Denise, Andrea.

He would ask for Amy through a haze and question where Pa was.

He still needed more surgeries to reconstruct his face, give him the ability to eat and drink properly.

It was almost a month later, the walls mostly rebuilt and Carl recovering when Andrew finally opened his eyes.

"Ma?" He croaks out and Maggie who was half asleep, bolts upright at his voice.

"I'm here baby, I'm here." She soothes. "It's okay."

"What happened?" He mumbled.

"You had an accident. You were shot." Maggie explained. "How do you feel?"

"My mouth hurts." Andrew grunts, reaching up with his free hand to touch his face.

His fingers brush against the cotton bandages that were wound around the lower part of his face.

"Where's Tank?" He whispered.

"Tank?" Maggie repeats.

"The dog."

Maggie thinks that he's hallucinating and brushes it off.

"Ma?" Andrew looks up at her, holding steady eye contact. "Can I see?"

"No baby." Maggie wants to spare him the horror of what she had seen.

"I want to see." He insists. "Please."

Tears leaked out of the corner of his eyes and it breaks Maggie's heart.

"Okay. Briefly." Maggie sighs, unhooking him from all the monitors and wires.

It feels weird to hold Andrew in her arms after so long but Maggie likes it when he rests on her like he used to.

She carries him to a small mirror, just a few feet tall and wide. It hung on the wall and Andrew can now see himself.

He reaches up to touch the bandages, looking towards Maggie for an okay.

Maggie reaches up with one hand and gently untapes the bandage, letting it unwind.

They finally peel the last of it off, gently pulling away the bandages stuck to his skin.

A few tears escape Maggie's eyes as she watches his reaction.

Andrew leans forward, eyes inspecting the wound.
