A Whole New View

It was the next day, late in the afternoon, with the sun half buried in the horizon. Hilda, along with Starlight, were sitting on the edge of a cliff, the same where Hilda gave Starlight her name, watching the sunset. They had just returned from training with their friends, where it had became more advance. It was defiantly more demanding, but Hilda was, as usual, determined to get them right, especially since they would come in handy during the Dragon Rider Trials.

She was sitting with her legs over the edge with Starlight sitting beside her, admiring the view as the sun slowly went down. This sort of thing had somewhat became a pastime for her and Starlight, but it helped to calm them down with all of the craziness going on.

Hilda had her eyes closed, imagining what the world beyond the horizon would be like. What places and dragons could be lurking and how far could it go before reaching the end of the world.

"I always seem to find you here." Hilda opened her eyes, away from her imagination when she heard a familiar voice. She smiled as she turned around to be greeted with the familiar site of her friend, Alric.

"Well, it seems to be only place we're always at." she remarked. She got up and was about to greet Alric, but Starlight beat her to it, circling around him in a friendly way.

"Nice to see you too, Starlight." he chuckled, rubbing her head before she went back to her sitting position.

Hilda smiled at her before looking back at Alric. "So, how was your race with Martha?" she asked. He didn't answer but only sighed with disappointment. That was all she needed.

She couldn't help but laugh at his loss. "Look, I know I said to you, you need to push yourself to win Dragon Racing, but maybe you're going a bit too far." she suggested.

"Oh, no. We are perfectly fine." he said immediately. "I will not rest until I beat her. It wasn't going to be this way, but she made it that way."

"I guess Linda was right; this really is an obsession for you." she laughed. Once she stopped, she noticed Alric looking out at the distance.

"Hey, Alric?" she said, waving her hand over his face, which caused him to zone back to reality.

"Hmm? Oh, sorry. I just...umm... Are...are you... busy? Like... you're... not too... tired?"

"No... I'm not tired, nor busy." Hilda replied, wondering why he was, all of a sudden, acting nervous towards her since he was normally the confident type.

"Oh, that's... great. Umm... Ok, here's the thing. Since we are going into more advance training for next few weeks, or... whatever how long,... I wanted to make sure that... you got the basic down. So,... is it possible if... I could ride with... you and Starlight? You know... to see if... you're good with flying."

Hilda had her arms crossed, really wondering why he was acting the way he was. But then, she dropped the thought, realising she got no reason to be suspicious with him.

"I don't know why you didn't ask during training, but because it's a nice view out... sure, why not?" she answered.

"Awesome! That's great!" he exclaimed, already making his way towards Starlight. Hilda was really confused now, but she couldn't help but smile. She'd rarely see Alric this excited, so she took pleasure at this moment.

"OK, then. Let me get my harness first, then we'll get going." she said. She ran to her house, grabbed her harness and ran back.

She climbed on Starlight's back, which has now became easier for her before helping Alric up. But suddenly, Starlight started to freak out - shaking and turning around as if she was trying to get something off of her back.
