"Are you sure you can watch her?" I ask Ryland
"Yes go I'm fine" He says shooing me out of his house
I walk to my car and take a deep breath before getting in. I'm kind of hesitant leaving Rosie at Ryland's house now because of Travis and Jade , but I had no one else to watch her as my mom and my other siblings are all busy and Ryland is off work today. I start my engine and drive the five minutes to the high school. Today's my first day as the new music teacher and I'm honestly nervous. How am I going to start the lesson off?
I take a deep breath as I park into the teacher's part of the parking lot. I grab my purse and get out. Today I'm wearing a grey flowy shirt tucked into a tribal print pencil skirt. I have a gold bracelet and a gold necklace on with some black heels. I straightened my hair and did my usual makeup.
As I walk into the school I'm hit with confusion. Where am I supposed to go?
"Rhonwen" Mr Howard calls
"Hello" I smile
"I see that you're having some difficulty" He chuckles
"Is it that obvious?" I laugh
"I'll show you how everything goes. Come on" He says walking into the office
"So you come in here and punch in your time card, then check your pigeon hole, and then you'll go to your classroom. Do you remember where the chorus room is?" He says
"Vaguely" I chuckle "I never took music until my senior year"
"I'll show you" He says
We walk down the familiar halls of my old school. I smile as we pass my old locker that's next to the one Maddie used to have. I chuckle to myself at all the memories we made at those lockers. We go further down the hallway and I see Travis' old locker. I blush at all the make out sessions we had there when we were together. We go through some smaller hallways and stop at the chorus room.
"Wow this place hasn't changed a bit since I left" I state
"No it hasn't" He agrees
"It's going to be awkward now" I chuckle "I used to go here. You were my principal and now you're my boss"
He chuckles and hand me the classroom key. "It's nice having you back Rhonwen"
"Thanks" I smile
"The school day starts at nine and ends at 12 on summer school days. I'm sure you remember what time the actual school day starts" He says before leaving
I unlock my classroom door and smile at the familiar room. During my senior year I had to get a fine art credit so I chose music and that's where I chose becoming a music teacher as a backup career. I take the picture of Rosie out of my purse and sit at on my desk. I check the clock and see that it's already 8:45. At 8:50 students start walking to their classes.
I sit down at my chair and lean back, thinking of how I want to address the students. As I write my name on the whiteboard, some students walk in. It's only about five students since this is summer school and not many students come to summer school.When the class bell rings a few more students come in and my classroom only has about seven students.
"Ok guys I'm Ms Lynch and I'm the new music teacher" I state
"You're so hot" A boy that looks around 18 says
"And your name is?" I ask him
"Stefan" He shrugs
"Well Stefan I'll have you know that I'm way out of your league plus I'm your teacher" I say
He shrugs while the other students laugh.
"Anyway I think we should go around and get to know each other a bit. I'll start. I'm Ms Lynch, I'm 28 years old, and I have a beautiful seven year old daughter"
"Wait I heard that name before" One of the girls say "Are you the youngest Lynch like Ross Lynch's sister that got married then broke up?"
"Yes. You must've been read some of the papers then" I say
"Yes I'm Caroline" She says
"Ok Caroline why don't you start off with the circle then" I suggest
"Ok I'm Caroline, senior, I have two younger brothers, and I can't wait to get the hell out of high school"
All of the students go around and say some things about themselves. I nod and ask them what song they'd like to sing together. They all fight until Caroline yells over everyone.
"Can you sing for us?" She asks "Then we'll all take turns singing our favourite song"
I consider the possibility for a few moments before nodding and walking over to a guitar in the corner of the room. I sit down on a stool and take a deep breath before strumming.

"Ooh, ooh, ooh I guess the change in my pocket Wasn't enough, I'm like Forget you And forget her too"
"Said, if I was richer I'd still be with ya Ha, oh ain't that some ssh" I smile as Travis pops into my head
"And although there's pain in my chest I still wish you the best with a Forget you"
" Yeah I'm sorry, I can't afford a Ferrari But that don't mean I can't get you there I guess he's an X-box, and I'm more Atari But the way you play your game ain't fair"
"I pity the fool that falls in love with you oh Oh ssh she's a gold digger Well Just thought you should know n**a Ooh, ooh, oh I've got some news for you Yeah go run and tell your little boyfriend"
As I finish the song I look down and sigh. When I look back up my class is staring at me in awe. Caroline smiles and starts clapping. Soon, everyone in the class is clapping which makes me smile. I put down the guitar and stand up, looking at the students expectantly.
"Who's next?" I ask
Caroline stands up and sits on the stool. She looks around nervously until I give her a warm smile and she continues. She takes a deep breath and starts belting out stone cold. I smile at her beautiful voice.
Over the next hour, the class sings some of their favorite songs. When there's only about ten minutes left of the day I decide to stand up in front of the class and talk to them a little.
"I know most of you just want to get this credit out if the way, but this is a very easy credit to gain. All I'm asking is for you guys to participate. I know I'm not very experienced in this type of thing, but if we all just put in the effort then we all can learn something from each other" I smile
The bell rings and they all run out the door. I sigh and pick up my purse. I walk out to my car and drive to Ryland's house. I use my key to unlock the door and walk in. As I enter the living room I freeze at the sight in front of me.
Travis. On the couch. With Rosie.
Oh god!
"What the hell?" I ask
Travis'head snaps up to meet my furious eyes.
"Where the hell is Ryland?" I ask
"His job called last minute and needed him to go to a meeting" Travis starts
"Ok so why are you with Rosie?" I ask
"He didn't want to bother you so I...I uh offered to watch her" Travis says
"Maddie.."I start
"Had work" He finishes
I scoff and cross my arms, looking away. Why would he offer to watch her?
"Why?" I ask
"Because she needs mon-"
"No. Why did you offer to look after her?"
"Jade told me that Rosie's father isn't in her life" Travis says changing the subject "Whoever he is, he must be pretty dumb for leaving you and her"
I look at Rosie's sleeping figure and tears cloud my eyes. I suck them back in and look into Travis' eyes.
"You said you weren't ready for a relationship" He states "When you said that you mean you weren't ready for married life you ment with me didn't you?"
"No of course not" I say shaking my head "I didn't want you to feel trapped so I let you go"
"How can you say that?" He asks "It's been seven years since I left. You said Rosie's six and a half so that means you would've had to sleep with someone around the time I left. You told me you loved me back then remember? And then you went and slept with someone else"
"Ok yes I did! Is that what you wanted hear I was upset and lonely?" I half lie
I shake my head and pick Rosie up before walking towards the exit. Travis tries to say something but I cut him off.
"You don't get to judge me" I state
"I wasn't trying to argue with you" He sighs "I just wanted to know why"
"You were gone I had to move on" I say as a tear falls and I turn around to leave
"I didn't" He says quickly
I stop in my tracks and take a deep breath waiting for him to continue.
"And I know it probably sounds crazy, but I don't care if you have another kid by someone else I just want you" He says
"You have Jade" I state turning around "You guys love each other, and you guys are getting married. You can't just come back and start saying things like this to me. Let's just stay out of each other's way...At least for now"
I walk out the house and to my car. I gently strap Rosie into her car seat before sitting into the driver's seat. As soon as my door is shut I break down in tears.
Why did I do that? I had a perfectly open window to tell him how I feel and I completely blew it off!
I'm so stupid! I feel like singing forget you again.
