When i was your man

Over the last week Travis and I have avoided each other like the plague. That was until a few days ago. I've been trying to stay away from Ryland's house while Travis was there and have my mom and the boys watch Rosie, but I have to give them a break. I see that there exhausted from running after Rosie all the time and they needs a break, so I have no other choice but to ask Ryland to watch her when he doesn't work.
I take a deep breath before walking in Ryland and Maddie's house. Today Ryland had to work so Maddie watched Rosie for me. As I walk in I check the living room, but neither of them were there so I check the kitchen. I sigh when I see no one's in there either.
"They're upstairs" Travis says from behind me
"Thanks" I say before going up there
As I reach the top of the stairs I see Jade waiting outside of Maddie's door.
"What's going on?" I ask when I reach her "Where's Maddie and Rosie?"
"Rosie is sleeping and Maddie locked herself in their room" Jade sighs "She won't come out. Ever since She brought Rosie up to sleep she hasn't come out. I don't know what to do"
"Let me try" I whisper before knocking on the door "Mads it's me Rhonwen open up"
Silence
"Please Mads. Whatever you're going through let me help you" I say against the door
Suddenly the door opens showing Maddie with tears running down her cheeks. She looks between me and Jade, but her eyes look into mine pleadingly.
"Why don't you go downstairs" I suggest to Jade "Travis might want company"
Jade nods and leaves. Maddie sighs and pulls me into her room. I see Rosie peacefully sleeping as Maddie sits on the floor at the bottom of her bed with her knees up to her chest and her head hanging low as she cries. I sigh, hating seeing her like this. I sit down next to her and pull her against my shoulder. After a while she sobers up and looks straight ahead while hugging her knees up to her chest.
"Did Ryland do something?" I ask
"Yeah" She chuckles "More like the both of us"
"What happened? Did you guys get into a fight?" I ask
"No" She says
"Then what?" I ask
She reaches beside her and hands me a stick with a pink plus sign.
"Are you?" I ask
"Pregnant?" She asks "Yeah"
Her eyes tear up again and looks down. My hand reaches out and wipes her tears away.
"Why are you crying? Aren't you happy?" I ask
"Of course I'm happy" She says "But, we didn't plan for this so soon. We wanted to wait a while after we got married to start trying"
"Does Ryland know?" I ask
"No" She cries "He...We wanted to wait months after the wedding to start trying. We wanted to be happily married before any kids came along. What if he's not ready yet and calls off the wedding?"
"He's not like that" I state "He'll be happy you just have to tell him"
"And that's soo easy to do" She says sarcastically
"It's not. But it'll be easier than keeping it a secret trust me. It'll be easier to tell him because you guys aren't in high school, you're adults. It'll be easier because you love each other" I state
"You don't think he'll be mad?" She asks
"Hell no" I laugh "Shocked. Yes. But, mad. Never. If he didn't want to start family with you he wouldn't be marrying you in a month"
"True" She laughs "We talked about having kids, but we didn't plan until after we were married"
"Well it takes nine months for a baby to cook" I chuckle "You'll have time to be happily married. He'll be a great dad"
"I know. The way he acts with Rosie is proof of that" She smiles sniffling
We sit there for a few moments in silence. Nothing awkward, but comfortable. I'm going to be an aunt again and my best friend is going to have a baby. Somehow my thoughts take a 180 and I'm thinking about Travis once again. It truly is hard to keep a secret, but he's with Jade and I won't get in the middle of that.
Maddie leans into me and sighs. We both wrap our arms around each other and it's amazing to have some quality time together.
"I miss Travis" I blurt out
"I know" She whispers
"When I saw him with Rosie last week we got into an argument and I had the perfect opportunity to tell him how I felt and I didn't"
"What happened?" She asks
"He asked me if I meant that I wasn't ready for marriage with him when I told him I didn't want to be with him. So I told him no and that I truly wanted the best for him and he said he didn't care that I had a kid someone else and he just wanted me" I say as tears well in my eyes "If only he knew he was her father. I can't tell him Mads I've tried and tried but he's getting married he doesn't need me to meddle in his life"

I was walking to my room as I heard Maddie and Rhonwen talking. I heard Travis' name and decided to snoop a little. Over the past week I've noticed Travis acting different around Rhonwen.
He told me they had a thing way back and they got married he got her pregnant. The way he told me made it seem like it was done and over with. But lately I've caught him looking at her. Obviously it was something more than a fling. When he offered to watch Rosie for Ryland I asked him why he offered and all he said was it was the least he can do as a favor since Ryland let us stay with him.
The other side of the door goes silent which makes me wonder what Rhonwen can't tell him. But then again, obviously she wants to tell him something important. Maybe she wants to tell him that she wants him back. Just the thought of that brings tears to my eyes.
I walk to my room and sit at the edge of the bed. I play with my fingers and soon Travis walks in.
"Hey" He says shutting the door "Something wrong?"
"Is there anything going on between you and Rhonwen?" I ask looking up
"No of course not" He says sitting beside me
"There's nothing there. at all. right?" I ask"There's no feelings. You're completely over her right?"
Silence...
"There is" I say letting a tear fall "Were you ever over her?"
"She's my first love and my ex wife " He starts
"Oh god" I groan "You still love her?"
"I'll always love her" Travis says "But I love you too"
He takes my hands in his as I let more tears fall.
"You told me everything was over" I say taking my hands away
"It is over. She told me to leave for Hollywood. She didn't want to be with me. She still doesn't" He says
"How do you know that!" I yell
He stays silent and looks down. Is he hiding something?
"She has a kid by someone else. How could you say that she still wants to be with me?" He asks
"How long has it been since you left for La?" I ask "Seven years right? Her daughter's six and a half years old. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the kid's yours"
"Rosie can't be mine. She told me she slept with someone else" Travis says
"And how are you so sure about that?" I laugh sarcastically "You left after summer started"
"Exactly" Travis says standing up and following me to the closet "I left right after there catwalks, she could've slept with anyone after I left"
"How about before you left?" I ask
He goes silent, trying to remember the last time they've had sex which just makes me even more furious. Did they really do it that much?
"It was on my last night,after her siblings concert" he says "But the hospital gave her birth control and as far as I know she was still taking it then"
I scoff and hold my arms. I get a bag and start putting some clothes into it.
"What are you doing?" He asks
I ignore him and he comes over and stops me from moving. He backs me into a wall behind us and he wipes my tears away. I let more tears fall.
"Do you love me?" I ask him
"Of course I do" Travis says
"Then why her?" I ask
"It just happened. It's completely over" He says
"Good" I say "Then please don't make me question our relationship ever again"
"You didn't have to in the first place" He says
"Good" I whisper leaning in "Because I can offer way more than what she can" because you are my man I said under my breath
