Liberty High was an awful school to go to. you had known this for years since you've lived here most of your life, but you didn't realise to what extent. you hung out with Justin, Bryce, Zach, Monty and all the other guys so you knew how horrible they could be, but they never did anything to you.
you didn't realise how mean your friends could be until Hannah Baker transferred to your school. you took an interest in her straight away, but sadly so did your other friends.
Justin and Hannah had been hanging out and of course you were happy for you friend until he sent around a photo of Hannah. you two had an argument since he thought it was not a big deal. after you had decided to befriend the lonely girl.
"Hannah, hey, are you going to the basketball game tonight?" you ask after you catch up to her in the hallway.
"i was, and then...you know"
"well, you should still come" you tell her, but you could see the uncertainty in her face, "just think about it, okay? i'll save you a seat" you grin at her as she nods her head.
later that night you sat in your usual seat watching the game that had already started. you looked around the bleachers and your smile grew once your eyes locked with Hannah's.
"hey, i was starting to think you weren't coming" you tell her with a small laugh as you look between her and the boys on the court.
"yeah, i wasn't going to, but i couldn't leave you here by yourself" she replied with a small smile.
as the game continued you noticed Courtney and her friends sitting in front of you's kept whispering about Hannah causing her to shuffle around awkwardly.
"hey, courtney!" you say as you tap her shoulder to grab her attention, "maybe you should shut up before i make you, okay? does your mouth do anything besides talk shit and complain?"
"i wasn't talking about you"
"no, you were talking about Hannah and i would appreciate it if you didn't"
