seeing Alex for the first time after you's broke up...

alex and you had broken things off not long after the tapes came out. he started being really secretive and stand off-ish towards you. you were the one to end things and not long after your family had moved away.
you had convinced your parents to let you come back for summer break and Clay's mom was nice enough to let you stay with them.
"i'm just going to Monet's if anyone asks for me" you tell Clay who nods his head, most likely not hearing a word you just said. you roll your eyes and leave the house anyways.
once you arrived at the small coffee shop you get your usual order before sitting down at the table you always sit at. you smile to yourself as you think of all the memories you have here...with Clay, Jess and Justin. Even Hannah would hang out with you here, and of course, Alex. Monets was always your go to spot when you's were dating.
"Y/N?" the familiar voice breaks you out of your thoughts as your eyes snap open...Alex. you hadn't seen him in so long you're surprised he still looks relatively the same.
"hey, it's good to see you! how are you doing?"
"how am i doing?"
your eyebrows furrow at his tone. you had just asked a simple question. you slowly nod your head as he lets out a dry laugh.
"i just got released from hospital"
your mouth opens and shuts like a goldfish as a million thoughts run through your head. "why? what happened?"
"why do you care? you're the one that left without a care in the world. you didn't care about me"
"Alex, you know that's not true..." you sigh, "i care about you a lot. trust me, i didn't want to leave but my dad's job"
"right...well, things have been pretty shitty around here since you left"
you give him a small smile to say sorry after you put your hand on his, "you know i'm always here for you, right? no matter where i am or what time it is, just give me a call and i'll be there for you, always"
"thankyou, y/n. it really means a lot. especially coming for you."
you and Alex spend the next few hours catching up on everything that you had missed while being away, and boy was it a lot to take it.
