To make their way to the forest, Team Seven had to cut through the village, which neither of them minded since it was quite relaxing. They left Konohagakure early in the morning, so it was shortly past noon at the moment. The sun shone dimly behind the thick clouds, giving the sky a light smoky gray shade; it would be no surprise if it rained sometime that day. The wind blew at Team Seven, brushing their loose clothing and hair gently. Overall, it was a scenic beauty.
"I keep forgetting how pretty Kirigakure is," Sakura mused while folding her hands behind her back. "I would love to come here, but maybe not for a mission."
"I agree, Sakura," Naruto smiled. "Maybe w-we could g-go..um--!"
"I think not" she glowered at him. "But if Sasuke would ever like to--!"
Sasuke scoffed, "Don't even think about it."
Kakashi plugged his students out with his signature novel, MakeOut Paradise, as they all made their way through the village. With the corner of his eyes, he observed the village and the various small shops and people.
Suddenly, something a bit peculiar caught his eye, making him lower his book. He continued to look forward but focused on his peripheral vision. He saw two women to their far left strolling solemnly, chatting in very hushed voices. He couldn't make out their faces, but he noticed one of them looking at him briefly.
He never thought much of it, since he was a rather handsome jonin, but found it incredibly odd that they were walking towards the forest was located. People of Kirigakure were told not to head there in spite of the Hunter-Nin sightings; perhaps they lived near the edge of the village?
Kakashi was snapped out of his thoughts when three annoying voices piped up.
"Where are we going again?" Naruto asked dully, folding his arms behind his head.
"We're following the direction where one Hunter-Nin was last seen," Sakura retorted. "and could you keep it down? We don't want to frighten the villagers!"
"Both of you, shut up." Sasuke grumbled.
They were about 10 yards away from the forest of Kirigakure, and thankfully, neither of them fought for the rest of the journey; most probably because they knew better than to make noise near the enemy.
When the finally left the village and entered the forest, each of them kept their hands over their weapons pocket. They proceeded with caution, walking carefully, for about twenty minutes when they heard faint rustling. Naruto and Sakura lightly whimpered, making Kakashi hush them.
Kakashi stood protectively in front of his students, "Keep your guard up.."
Sasuke stiffened as well. "Behind us..."
Naruto and Sakura both pulled out their kunai, standing back to back, raising their arms in defense. Kakashi calmly moved up and looked up in the tree tops. He saw a glimpse of white streaks zooming branch to branch. Sasuke threw a shuriken at the figure, but it leaped back into the trees.
Kakashi walked up casually towards the trees. "It would save us both time if you just came out and showed yourself."
"Sensei! What are--!?" Naruto exclaimed when Sakura slapped his mouth shut.
The ninja carefully swooped down and landed crouched down. Kakashi's eyes widened: it was a Hunter-Nin, but not only that. He had a feeling like he'd seen this one before.
"Well, if it isn't Kakashi Hatake.." the voice observed smugly, and almost immediately it was clear that it belonged to a woman.
"That voice.." Kakashi whispered to himself. He stood in front of his kids protectively and kept his other hand in his pocket, gripping the handle of his Kunai. "What do you want?"
The Hunter-Nin gave a small chuckle. "I'm here for the Copy Ninja."
Kakashi didn't move a muscle, demanding once more, "Who are you?"
The women slowly removed her mask, revealing piercing crimson eyes that stood out against her pale complexion. She had hair the colour of freshly produced snow, with lips the same shade as her eyes.
Suddenly, it hit him.
"Yumika Tsuchida..." he said, with a chilling chuckle. "almost didn't recognize you."
She smiled, "My, my. How could you forget about me?"
"Who is she, Kakashi Sensei?" Sakura pondered, slightly lowered her guard since Kakashi seemed to know her.
He turned to the three children and grinned. "We go back to the academy." He looked back at her, "Surprised the weakest one of them would become a Hunter-Nin, hmm."
"How sweet that you remember," was her only response, because it was true. She had to work and train her way to be at her level now.
Sasuke tossed another shuriken right next to her head, as a warning. "If you're done with your reunion, can we kill her now?"
Yumika gave a soft laugh, making it was hard to believe that she was a hunter-nin. "Oh, my. Aren't you a brave one? Alright then, since you're growing so restless." she slowly pulled her mask back down.
"Yumika, I don't think we have to kill each other," Kakashi reasoned. "All we want is for you all to stop harassing the village."
"Who said anything about harassing?" she said innocently. "We haven't done anything wrong."
"Then why are you guys here?!" Sakura asked, arching her eyebrows. Kakashi did not like the kids engaging in his conversation.
Yumika chuckled again behind her mask, this one sounding more ominous, "Isn't it obvious?" She clasped kunai knives in between her knuckles, "To gain your attention."
Kakashi narrowed his eyes, "A trap. But for who?"
"The Copy Ninja, of course."
