Days had flown by since Yumika's first day living with Kakashi, and it started to seem like forever...in a good way.

They had a pretty normal schedule: he would go out with his team for missions and training while she would leave the house occasionally for the missions she took from the Hokage's office. Since she wasn't Sakura's teacher anymore, Yumika had more time to help Konoha out by doing some missions (mostly B and some A) and make an income. She made sure to avoid missions in Kirigakure for now, as she had no idea what happened to Haku and Zabuza. It was obvious that they would resent her for being a traitor.

When she wasn't out doing missions or tending to the house, Yumika would spend the day out in the village, whether it be shopping or hanging out with old friends. Today, she decided to do some grocery shopping, since they were running low on some essential ingredients.

"You going out today?" Kakashi called from the other room, tying his headband.

"Yes, I need to do some shopping," Yumika responded, running a comb through her hair thrice. "I hope you don't mind."

"Nah, I'll be out the entire day anyway." he stood at her doorway. "Just make it before sundown; I don't feel like eating out again today."

This made her laugh. Whenever Yumika would come late from a mission, she would forget to make Kakashi dinner before she would leave; resulting with him having to eat out. This made him miss her homemade meals often.

"Don't worry," she turned to him and smiled. "Have a nice day, Kakashi."

He returned the gesture before slipping his mask back up, "You too." And with that, they walked together outside of the house and parted ways.

"WOOHOO!" Naruto cheered while pumping a fist into the air. "I finished before everyone!!!"

"Look around you, idiot." Sasuke reprimanded. "We're already done."

Sakura stuck her tongue and giggle mischievously, "Aw, Sasuke, you should've let him had his moment. Hehe!"

Kakashi sighed, "You're all idiots. Anyways, I think we're done for today."

"Grr.." Naruto scowled at the three of them. "Well, whatever! Ichiraku's is having a dinner special right now, so I'll be rewarded either way!"

"Whatever helps you sleep at night, loser." Sasuke snickered.

"Alright, off with the three of you." Kakashi made a shooing motion with his hands, briefly before slipping his novel out. "See ya."

Team Seven waved to their sensei, before dispersing, "Bye, Sensei!!!"

As he made his way back to the village, Kakashi sensed a presence behind him, making him stop in his tracks. Had he not moved out of the way, he would've been tackled with a bear-hug by none other than Might Guy.

"Heeeey, Kakashaaay~!" Guy chirped, sidestepping to clap his old buddy on the back. "Jeez, I thought I'd never find you today! Where ya been?!"

"Guy..." Kakashi wiped the sneer off his face, "What could you possibly want at this hour?"

"Well, nice to see you too! Hmph!" Guy turned his head away sassily, arms folded.

Kakashi stood there patiently, until Guy whirled around, "Apology accepted, rival! Now, what was I going to say...oh right!"

Suddenly, his expression turned a bit serious, "Kage wants to see us. Like, pronto."

The silver-haired man raised his brows, "Hm. We'd better get going then."

"Race ya!" Guy stuck his tongue out playfully, making Kakashi roll his eyes but the two broke into a sprint to the Hokage's office.

The sun was beginning to sink by the time Yumika had finished her shopping and return home. She headed to the kitchen and heaved a sigh as she placed her bags of groceries upon the counter.

"He must be starving," she mused, grabbing the fish out of the bag. "maybe I'll make his favourite: salt-broiled saury. "

She spent the next hour preparing a mini feast with his favourite food, making sure to taste it ever so often to ensure it was good enough for him to eat.

The doorknob rattled, averting her gaze from the stove to the person who had entered.

"I'm home," Kakashi said, his voice softer than usual. "Yumi?"

"In the kitchen," she called out, undoing her apron and heading to the door to greet him. "You'll never guess what I made for din--!" Her voice trailed off, upon seeing the serious look on his face. "Are you alright?"

He shook his head, still not meeting his eyes, "Yeah, it's just," He lowered his mask for fresh air. "the Hokage's got me, Guy, and a couple other jonins to go out on a mission. I'll be gone for a few days, maybe even a week."

"Oh.." her ladle hand lowered. "Is something amiss?"

"It's nothing," he assured her while briefly sniffing the air. "Is that..?"

"Mhm!" she pointed to the kitchen with her ladle. "You should come and ea--!"

He cleared his throat, "Uh..I have to leave now, Yumi."

Her eyebrows upturned, "Oh! Uh..I'm sorry."

She waited for him as he freshened up in his room, washing his face before slipping his mask back on. As he walked out of the washroom, she followed him outside the house. The sky was a calming orange hue, with the wind bristling at their loose clothing and hair.

"I-is there anything I can do to help?" Yumika's tone became more serious. "Maybe ask the Hokage if I can com--!"

"No," Kakashi cut in. "It's an S-rank mission; you aren't qualified."

"I've done one before, as a Hunt--!" she saw how his expression darkened and shut her mouth.

He adjusted the straps of his pack and sighed, "I'll get going now. Take care of yourself."

"Kakashi..." her voice turned more worrisome. "Are you sure?"

He nodded, then gave her a reassuring smile, "I'll be fine, Yumika."

"Stay safe..." she wished him.

"You too."

He started walking, and she watched the back of him slowly fade into the distance. Once he was gone completely from the horizon, she reentered the house and stared at the dining table, which was full of food.

"I guess I'll eat this by myself," she sighed.

'Please stay safe, Kakashi...'
