Chapter Thirty Eight

Paiton's POV

I walked into the hotel room and shut the door , seeing Carter on the bed scrolling through his phone .

He looked up at me and paused for a moment , before locking his phone and setting it aside . He ran a hand through his quiff . " Can we .. talk ? " He breathed .

I nodded and felt a lump in my throat as I sat down next to him . It was silent for a second until Carter began his speech .

" Look , I saw you ranting to Taylor about me and you bawling your eyes out . It honestly made me so sad and angry at myself , knowing that I should've been in Taylor's spot , comforting you and being trustworthy enough to know how you're feeling . But I haven't . I've screwed you over one-too many times and I'm done with that . I love you so much Paiton , I didn't know how to deal with my emotions and I didn't want to love you . But now I realize that I can't stop loving you , no matter what I do . You deserve so much better than me but here I am , wanting you back . I've been craving you Paiton . I need you in my life . I love you " Carter spilled .

It felt as if the knives in my heart have been removed . He said all of the right things and made me realize that I was still , matter-a-factly , head-over heels for him . Then Taylor came to my mind .

" Carter .. that was really sweet . You know you mean everything to me and all but I just can't keep trying to win these games of yours , because in reality you will always win . I know you said you weren't gonna do it again but how do i know you won't ? How can I trust you again ? Im not gonna let you build your trust back up and then break me again . Taylor treats me like you should've and more . He's amazing and I like him a lot , Carter . I just need my distance from you . We should forget about whatever we were and move on ... I'm sorry " I said . And with that , I was completely torn . I felt my eyes begin to water , I just pushed my everything away from me .

I had my hand on the bathroom doorknob when Carter spoke . " I understand Paiton . But I'll wait for you , no matter how long it takes . Even if there's no guarentee that you'll ever love me again . Because I'm utterly and completely in love with you and there's no denying it , there's no pushing the feelings away " Carter said .

A small tear fell to my cheek .. and then it hit me - i would always love carter , unconditionally
