Chapter Twenty

Carter's POV

I laid with Paiton until she was overcome by sleep , I loved stroking her hair and just being there with her . She's so beautiful , even while she's asleep . I wrapped my arms around her tighter and listened to her shallow but steady breathing .

" Carter , it's 7:45 . We better get going to the studio " Matt said , snapping me out of my thoughts . I nodded my head and slowly got up , changing into sweats and a t-shirt . I slid my phone in my pocket and then put my shoes on .

I walked over to Paiton and picked her up bridal style . She moaned quietly and nuzzled her face in my shoulder . I bent down and grabbed her flipflops , before following Matt out of the door .

Cam and Nash were already in the lobby , waiting for us to come down . " Oh look who finally decided to show up " Nash said , with a hint of sarcasm . Matt rolled his eyes .

Cam looked up at me with a small smile on his face . " What ? " I asked , furrowing my eyebrows . He just shrugged and looked at Paiton . " You and Paiton are just cute together " He smirked and grabbed the keys out of his pocket .

" Yeah , you guys may be cute but if you hurt her I'll break your neck " Nash stated . I thought he was joking but when I looked into his usually light blue eyes , they darkened . I nodded my head .

" You don't have to worry about that , I love her way too much to hurt her " I smiled .

Paiton's POV

I was woken up to loud music and guys screaming song lyrics . I rubbed my eyes and looked around . We were in Cam's Jeep . He was driving , Nash was in the passengers seat , Matt was behind him singing along with the song , and I was sitting on someone's lap .

I turned around and smiled . Carter . He smiled back at me and kissed my nose sweetly . " How was your nap ? " He asked , loosening his arms from around me so I could move . I shrugged . " Pretty good , until that dying whale over there decided to wake me up " I laughed .

Matt turned to me and frowned . " How dare you call me a dying whale " He said , fake crying . I smiled . " I was kidding , you know you sound like Beyoncé " I said . Matts face brightened up and he looked at Carter .

" You definitely have a keeper , bub " He said . I blushed and laid my head on Carter's shoulder . He kissed my neck and smiled against my skin . " Believe me Matt , I knew when I first set my eyes on her " He said .

We walked in the studio , talking about random things and just laughing . But once we heard singing , we stopped and listened quietly .

" We don't have to be ordinary ,

Make your best mistakes .

We don't have the time to be sorry ,

So baby be the life of the party "

Shawn . I smiled instantly . I always knew that he was an amazing singer but I have never really heard him in person . His voice was so angelic and I loved every second of the song .

" How was that ? " He asked , after he finished the song . " Great " An unfamiliar voice said . We decided to walk in the recording room . Shawn was taking his headphones off and smiling widely .

When he looked up at us , he ran out of the booth and embraced me , out of all people , in a hug . I assume it's because I'm the only girl here . I hugged him back and inhaled his sweet smelling cologne . He pulled away and smiled .

He did the guy hug thingy to everyone else . " So did you guys hear me ? Did you like the song ? " Shawn asked . We all nodded our heads . " This is the first time that I've ever heard you in person and your amazing " I smiled .

Shawn blushed slightly and smiled . " Thank you " He said . I nodded my head and smiled back . I felt Carter lace his fingers in mine and give my hand a tight squeeze - a really tight squeeze .

I winced and pulled my hand away , looking over at Carter . He was staring at Shawn with a hard glare . Confusion was etched on all of the guys faces , except Shawn - who turned around to talk to his manager .

Why was Carter acting so clingy ?
