"I just think that necklace looks really nice on you." The guy grinned at you.
Your hand subconsciously touched the necklace Steve had gotten you on your anniversary. "Well thank you." You said returning the smile. "I always wear this one when I go out." You stated as you crossed your legs and clasped your hands in your lap. "So how long do you get for military leave?" You continued the conversation.
The young man had leaned against the bar where you sat while waiting for Steve to park the car. The two of you had started a conversation easily while you waited for the doors to open so you could take your seats for the play. You sat with your back to the main doors so you didn't know that Steve had come back in and was collapsing the umbrella.
"I only have a few days left but I decided I wanted to go see some pretty sights," He said as an easy grin formed, 'seems i don't have to look much farther." He finished as he leaned a little closer.
However, you never didn't seem to pick up on his hints, now that you were with Steve you didn't pay much attention to other guys flirting with you. "This is a lovely building." You commented as you looked around at the interior design.
The young man stared at you a moment as you looked around before asking his next question. "So what are you doing after the play?" His eyes searched you almost like an animal sizing his prey.
"She is coming home with me." A deep and stern voice sounded behind you and caused you to jump a little.
Instantly the gentleman bristled as Steve placed his hands on your bare shoulders. You looked behind you with a light smile but it turned into a frown when you saw the darkness in Steve's eyes, it was something you've never seen before. You turned your head to follow Steve's gaze to the other man just as he started to ask another question, but your boyfriend cut him off quickly.
"Come on (Y/n)." Steve said as he took a step back, his eyes never leaving the other's. You stood up and followed him two steps before realizing he was about to step outside.
"But babe, the show hasn't started yet." You frowned, confused and sent a glance toward where people were starting to filter into the auditorium.
"Yes, and I've decided I would rather spend the night at home with you than out in the cold." Steve said as he laced his arm with yours.
You allowed him to walk you to the foyer when you finally pulled back against him hard enough that he stopped to look at you.
"What is going on." You demanded as you pulled your arm back and crossed them. "We finally get a chance to go somewhere nice without it being S.H.I.E.L.D related and suddenly you're like a racehorse trying to get home." There was still something behind his eyes, something that was dawning on you like the time Bucky sucker punched you. You suddenly knew why he was acting like this, but you wanted to hear him say it.
"I would just rather be home on our night off, okay?" He said watching you and every guy around you.
"Steve." You waited until his eyes finally landed back on your amused ones. "Say it and we will go home."
"Say what?" He frowned.
"The exact reason you don't want to be here right now." You challenged.
"Because i would rather be home." He tried again and you shook your head.
"No. Just admit it."
"Admit what?" He was becoming a little defensive now.
"That you're jealous of that Marine that I was talking to." You smirked.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He countered.
"Fine, but i would rather watch the show. You go ahead and head home. I'll see you later tonight." You stated and started to walk back.
"Wait." He said as he seized your arm. "Okay fine. I didn't like the way he was flirting with you." He hesitated as you watched him closely. "I got a little jealous because I want to be the only guy to look at you like that." He said as his eyes raked you up and down.
You subconsciously smoothed out the dress before pulling him a little closer by his jacket collar. "Good." You whispered as he instinctively leaned closer. "Because I want you to be the only one to look at me like this." You murmured before giving him a quick kiss.
In truth, it always annoyed you how other girls doted on Steve. Yet at the same time you knew that he didn't have a wandering eye, and you knew that deep down he knew you didn't either. Somewhere in the back of your mind you knew the other guy was flirting with you, but you really didn't care.
"So are we still going home?" You asked, not letting go of his jacket.
"Damn right we are." He grinned.
"Steven!" You feigned offense. "Where are your manners?" You teased.
"Oh just get in the car." He laughed as he opened the umbrella for you.
