I spent the next few days replaying what transpired that night with my date with Raye. Although a simple gesture it resonated deep within me as more and I wanted to guard the memory closely, as I was a sucker for saccharine experiences.
It left me happy whenever I thought about this girl and what captured me more was that Raye and I started texting a lot. I kept my promise and well, it was the best thing I did because not only was she amazing in the flesh but over the phone, she was just as charming and witty. She knew exactly when to be funny, and when to tease you with just the right amount of sexy and I was hooked to my phone. The wondrous notion of me being enamoured of someone was caught on quickly by my family.
At my parent's for dinner the following weekend, my brother made it his duty to interrogate me "So, you finally met someone huh?"
Turning my focus to him, he grinned at me, his pearly whites exposed to the light. I was sitting alone, but he scooted himself beside me in an attempt to annoy me.
"Don't you have anything to do?" I was irritated.
My brother Bran was a big guy, the biggest of all my siblings and just like his huge stature, he was a huge pain in the ass— he was the comic among us and as an unspoken tradition, he made sure to annoy my sister and me whenever we went by.
"Yeah but I'd rather talk to you instead of annoying Cassie " Bran replied and I rolled my eyes. "You're annoying me now, do you know that? And I haven't met anyone, "
He merely laughed at my reply and scooted even closer to me on the couch. "I'm not mom Brie, so spill. Is she hot, is she short, is she tall, is she cute? Oh, oh, is she like that girl you dated a few years ago..ahh, what's her name?" Bran clicked his fingers together as he tried to remember her name and I frowned.
"Her name was Zavia and no I'm not dating someone like her. I'm not dating anyone at all," I replied getting up from the couch, moving away from him.
"Geez, that's no fun,"
I went to the kitchen in search of mom and just as I expected he followed me.
"Bran's being a pain again," I said once I was there and both my mother and sister turned around from what they were doing to glare at my brother and me.
"Aren't you two a little too old to be at each other's throats like kids all the time?"
"Yes-"
"No, "My brother and I responded simultaneously and Cassie laughed."Every time I come here I always have to put up with him ma. Don't you have somewhere to be?" I turned to my brother to ask.
"Yes, I do. I'm here for dinner just like you."
"You're here every night," Cassie said.
"What? It's not my fault mom's a better cook than I am."
"My guy, you don't even cook so what are talking about? Of course, mom's gonna be better at it than you." I replied. Bran looked me dead in the eyes, arching a brow. I could see him smirk that evil smirk he always did before he did or said something revealing.
"Mom, do you know Brie has a girlfriend?" He tossed and I gasped, covering my mouth. My mother and Cassie stopped what they were doing and studied me.
"Awww Brie," Cassie replied with intrigue in her eyes as she clutched her chest. The thought of anyone being romantic in any way always made her bleed hearts.
"Is that true Brienna, you're dating someone?" My mother asked and just as playfully as the rest of my family.
"No, no. I'm not, Bran's making this up because he saw me smiling at my phone earlier."
