"No, offense, babe, but you need a bath." Mack joked but showed a smile to reassure her that it was only a joke.
"Do I?" She smiled back, displaying fake offense to the statement.
We all need baths.
"Yeah."
"When was the last time you changed your underwear?" I nudged my brother's chest, smiling at Addy, who winked at me.
"What underwear?"
He turned to look at the red head, wiggling his bushy eyebrows.
"Ew!" I groaned, getting off of his lap.
I placed my butt on Addy's lap and my feet on Mack's.
"Y'all see that?" Doc caught all of our attention.
We faced a familiar truck; a truck that has been through so much and seen better days.
"That's them alright. Bastards." Charlie sneered, getting frustrated at just their appearances.
When we got closer to the enemy, Warren stopped the bug, and we started to walk the rest of the way. The Junker makes too much noise.
"Looks like they're trying to rob some poor family this time."
The feeling of Warren's glare was radiating all the way to the back of the group.
"Not if I have anything to say about it. Come on." Charlie's words were colder than ice.
Warren and Charlie led us; Cassandra and Murphy were safely behind them; Doc and 10K were behind the brunette and experiment; I stayed in between Addy and Mack as we all traveled towards the two groups.
At the truck, Mack pushed me behind the tailgate for protection. For some reason, 10K took it upon himself to go to my side. He placed his sniper's Harris Bipod on the ledge of the tailgate.
"Drop your weapons on the ground or the first shot takes your head off." Charlie warned, pointing the pistol at the Jersey Boy's head.
I could see the man silently groan at his bad luck as he remembered who the voice belong to.
"You heard the man."
Papa Bear of the family held a large automatic in his paws. I think it's pleasant how he's protecting his family through the apocalypse; how he still has some sanity in him. Something flashed by the corner of my eye.
What was that? Turning my head to the side, I looked on the other side of the truck. Oh.. my God.. Men from before were all lined up in a horizontal line with their hands behind their heads and their knees against the grassy ground.
"Warren!" I shouted for her attention.
I didn't dare turn away from the men, especially when they looked at me with pleading eyes. They're all just trying to survive. That's all. Even the family.
"What is this?" Warren spoke with a slight gasp once she saw the line.
"A robbery."
A body tackled me to the asphalt at the same time gunshots exploded into the silence. Waves of bullets were flowing through the nonexistent wind. Besides the cases of the explosion of bullets, the casings were falling down, clinking against the dirty asphalt.
10K's body was a shield for my own even though it didn't look like any of the bullets were pointed at us. So maybe he's not that mad? Two minutes passed before there was just complete silence; everyone trying to adapt better to the situation.
When it was safely quiet from the cocking guns and firing bullets, 10K was off of me in a split second to attach himself to the sniper. What just happened? With us? I assaulted the guy and he protects me in return?
What a damn good deal, huh?
"Drop your weapons." Papa Bear now spoke to us.
I just couldn't help myself anymore. I had to lean over and look at the men that once stared at me with big doe eyes. Now, they lay on the muddy ground with holes, not only in their brains, but all over the lifeless bodies.
The bright, watery eyes were now blank, empty, and soulless to the world.
"I don't want to have to kill you." Papa Bear sounded very sincere with his shaky voice.
I got back beside 10K, watching what everyone will do. This is my family and I got to protect them too.
"Never get out of the boat." Murphy grumbled to himself.
Charlie was the first to lower his weapon. Smart choice. These people don't hesitate to light people up. Warren followed suit, then one-by-one we all started to lower the deadly objects from their forms.
10K took his Harris Bipod off of the ledge and took a step back. A tug from the back of Mack's hood made me take a step back as well. I looked up at the person who forced me to move away from our vehicle.
10K. The raven-haired boy had his jaw clenched as the mom ushered the murderous kids in the, once again, stolen vehicle. Like I said earlier, little kids are better in the zombie apocalypse than me.
Once Papa Bear saw his cubs and Mama Bear were safe from the crossfire, he entered the driver's seat. Nothing was exchanged between the two groups. Nothing was said as we walked back to The Junker.
Doc, 10K, Addy, and Mack switched up their sitting charts; now it was Doc and 10K in the engine hole while Mack and Addy stood up in the back. I stayed in my assigned seat, on Doc, in the engine hole.
My feet were pressed against the thighs of 10K.
"Hey, Doc?" I asked while Warren moved The Junker at 10 MPH.
"Yeah, kiddo?"
"When the zombie apocalypse happened in Vegas, did it stay in Vegas?"
Mack snorted from the very back. Doc laughed, shaking his head at my joke. I looked up at 10K, hoping for at least a sly smile. Nope. Just him glaring at the road ahead. Darn it..
After about a good 30 minutes of silence and riding a turtle, Murphy just had to open that loud mouth of his.
"Can't this thing go any faster? I'm gonna die of old age before we get to California."
I leaned my head back against Doc's arm, groaning in annoyance. For someone who doesn't want to be stuck by a doctor, he really wants to get there.
"You can always get out and push." Warren snapped back at the cocky man.

Will Reader-Chan ever be able to sit in 10K's lap?
