When he looked back through the transparent glass, he watched Murphy flare his arms around in--what seemed to be--anger. Warren shook her head in dismay at the tantrum that the adult was throwing.
After hitting the walkie-talkie around a few more times, they moved over to the Tahoe. Warren got back inside the driver's seat. Doc got back inside the passenger while Murphy and Cassandra got on either side of 10K.
"Has she woke up?" Warren asked, turning the key to ignite the black beast.
"She almost did."
"How do you think she'll be?" Doc asked, knowing they wouldn't be able to keep her asleep the whole apocalypse.
10K's hand would fall off before that. Instead of just backing up, Warren had turned her head around to look at the two in the back seat.
"Don't wake her up, yet. She's just gonna start cryin' again." Murphy groaned, not wanting to hear her pleas and cries anymore.
It wasn't a lie when he found the pleas annoying, but he didn't like how the tears streamed down her face. He didn't like hearing her question her worth, either.
Warren sighed, shaking her head like that would blow Murphy's order away, "Wake her up. We need everyone alert and ready for anything."
Warren backed the beast up as she thought about more theories as to why the roadblock was placed like this, and what to do if the bridge didn't work out.
'It could be a group wanting to find a moving vehicle, or this could've happened because of the apocalypse.' Warren theorized more to herself.
Nevertheless, she still needed everyone on high alert, even if it were to be the latter theory.
Murphy groaned quietly at the overridden order before covering his ears, not wanting to listen to the complaining and whining. 10K cleared his throat, ceasing the movements he was doing before.
"(Y/N), it's time to wake up." Cassandra spoke gently as she began to pat her shoulder.
10K grabbed the wrist that belonged to the hazel orb's arm, "That'll just make her go back to sleep."
"Oh."
'How did he know that?' Cassandra wondered inside her mind, but she listened to his words.
"(Y/N)." Cassandra spoke more clearly this time.
When Cassandra touched (Y/N)'s shoulders to shake it, the young teenager started to wiggle around in 10K's lap.
"Rise and shine." Doc beamed when a small groan emitted from the 16-year-old's throat.
'She didn't start crying, so that's a good sign.' Doc noted the way she was quieter than before.
Cassandra started to gently shake her shoulder, trying to wake her up a bit faster.
"Go away." Sleeping Beauty groaned out loud, "Wake me up when the zombie apocalypse ends."
"Baby girl, we can't do that. Mack wouldn't have wanted you to be like this." Warren encouraged, trying to use her brother as a way to motive her.
Little did she know, that was the wrong thing to say at the moment.
"Fuck. Mack. He left me for some red-headed beauty." (Y/N) scoffed, burying her head deeper into 10K's neck.
The holder froze at her actions, not knowing how to handle this situation. He's never been this close to any female, or even male for that matter. He's never even been around a female, except for his mother, especially before the apocalypse.
"Do it for us then, (Y/N). We need you right now." Cassandra offered next.
Only reason Cassandra was encouraging her to get up was because the brunette felt slight jealousy that (Y/N) was so close to 10K. And getting away with it.
"Whatever." The teenager scoffed again, but it sounded more like a world-before-the-apocalypse kind of scoff from a rebellious teenager.
(Y/N) leaned back from her comfortable position on 10K's lap. When their eyes met, (Y/N) noticed how much 10K's eye color changed during her nap while 10K noted how puffy her (E/C) eyes really were.
'His eyes change colors.' (Y/N) lightly began to smile at her own thoughts, staring at the light blue with a couple of light green specs and dark brown dots.
'Her eyes are puffer than before. Was it her tears instead of drool?' 10K thought, watching the redness on her forehead--from laying against his own flesh--began to fade away since pressure was released.
"What are we waiting for?" The first thing she asked as she turned around, still sitting on 10K's lap.
She studied the roadblock, then the bridge that was right in front of them now.
"You." Murphy muttered, getting out of the vehicle.
After he exited, everyone began to follow his lead. (Y/N) thought nothing of sitting in 10K's lap but he did. He couldn't get her warmth she had shed from her own temperature off of his body, so it just felt like he had a fever.
He could only imagine what his scarf--the scarf that was still wrapped around the girl's neck--smelt like by now.
* (Y/N)'s P.O.V *
We walked across the raggedy-ass bridge with Warren and Doc leading us about. 10K was in the middle of Cassandra and I while Murphy was behind us all.
"Why didn't we go across the bridge in the car?" I asked out loud.
"Too much weight." Warren answered shortly for me.
With nothing more said, my eyes stayed glued to the brown old wood, not daring to look up anymore than I had to. How could I? I'm lost even when I have a capable leader guiding me around. I'm so fucking lost in life.
My brother left me for someone that wasn't even part of our family before the apocalypse. He chose Addy over his sister. He chose someone that didn't even love him. He rather have some strangers protect me than do it himself!
"(Y/N)!" 10K's voice broke through my concentration, then a hand jerked me to the left.
A gust of wind pushed pass my already sweaty back, then a horrid noise of a knife going through a skull echoed through my ears. I looked to the right side of me, seeing 10K hovering over the dead Z with his knife in hand.
I tilted my head back to see Cassandra's worried eyes staring back down at me.
"You need to pay more attention." 10K muttered, wiping his knife onto his jet black pants.
I shrugged Cassandra's hands off of my shoulder. I pushed pass Warren, but she was quicker than me. The woman grabbed my hand to make me stand still rather than move on without her.
"Stay with us, (Y/N)." She sighed, not removing her hand, fearing I'd leave.
And I would; if she would just let go. I said nothing and did nothing, not looking anyone in the eye. Something in me just wanted to walk away from the whole 'saving the world' mission that Charlie got us on.
What's the point in this? What's in it for me?
"Uh-oh." Doc's voice removed everyone's attention from me, and put it on the horde that was coming on the north-east side of us.
Warren pushed me behind her, taking off the head of any Z that came near her or me. Of course, 10K revealed his sniper in front of him, cocking it before blowing a Z's brain out.
"I got the one on the right." I heard Cassandra inform 10K of her actions.
They work so well together. Why am I so envious of that? Oh, right! Because my brother and I worked so well together.
Now, look at us.
