"Murphy, don't make me have to explain the term 'failsafe doomsday weapon' again, please." Doc breathed out more carbon dioxide for the grass beneath our feet.

I crossed my arms over my chest, not agreeing or reminding Murphy of his past mistakes. What would it actually do? I want nothing to do with him right now anyway. I don't care if he is the savior of humanity.

He's also a murderer.

"How do you even know California's still there?"

Suddenly, Vasquez shoved Murphy in front of everyone like he was the object for show and tell. Murphy just barely caught himself from the forcible shove. I didn't dare make a voice of disapproval towards Vasquez.

I would've, though; I would've told Vasquez that Murphy didn't do anything, that it was a simple question.

"You're looking ripe. You better hope it's still there."

Vasquez moved to get in front of everyone with his gun in front of his chest and in his hands, "Move."

Wow, I kind of like this man now. Straight to the point with the dominance of an alpha. Murphy turned around from facing the direction we were staring off in, to face the abuser. I'm surprise Cassandra didn't throw a duck.

When Murphy turned around, he took a step but Vasquez met him halfway. The two men got up close and personal to the other, begging for one to make the first move--that way the 'victim' wouldn't get scowled by Warren too bad.

Here we go, another fight between the two.

"You are not the boss of me." Murphy seethed in between his teeth, eyes narrowing like a challenging tiger.

Murphy tried to use the height difference to scare Vasquez back to Warren's side, but that didn't seem to be working too well on the new member of our team. Nah, Vasquez looked like he welcomed a challenging opponent.

Then, Murphy nudged his head to the real leader of the group, "She is."

Warren made a move to be the wall between the two men, putting a hand on Vasquez's chest as if that could hold back the beast. My eyebrows raised at the action. What's this? Did something happened between the two last night?

I looked over in Addy's direction, nudging my head towards Warren's. Her smile was light and showed how tired she was, but the thumbs up told me she had noticed the two's action as well. She's probably noticed something between them before I did.

"I can handle this."

Warren turned her back to Vasquez and shoved Murphy just like the original abuser had done. There was now enough space for her to squeeze her hourglass figure into the void.

As if she was a joker that had to move her sire along, she made a hand gesture for a royal person to proceed onto their next conquest, "Move."

Growing tired of their games and how they acted, I walked away from the little group they had forgotten about. I walked pass Warren and Vasquez, then Murphy. I headed straight to the unknown.

"Gladly." I heard Murphy say like he was cruisin' for a bruisin' from Vasquez.

I stayed ahead of everyone since the little scene Murphy had caused, keeping myself in a world where I was a little happier. All I could think about was Mack.

Every time he'd appear in my thoughts, though, I'd make something that was happening in the present remove the memory of his figure.

10K had removed himself from Vasquez's side from the back of the group, and kept a pace in between the distance of Warren and I.

I didn't need him to be there for me at this moment, but it was a free-range world at this point. The burning scent came to my nostrils before I even noticed the smoke ahead of us.

I turned around on my heel, walking backwards as Warren and the rest of the group began to jog towards me once they caught scent of the stench. At least it wasn't the smell of burning flesh.

I was just going to keep walking backwards, looking at each one of them until worry was the emotion passing through 10K's eyes. The fearful look plastered on his face like makeup beat his voice of worry.

Next thing I knew, Warren, Cassandra, and 10K were all running at full speed towards me while Addy was screaming my name. What's going on? Why are they running now? A gasp slipped pass my lips as the rock beneath my feet became no more.

My eyes went wide with fear like 10K's as my heart dropped to my stomach. My body was falling like my heart, but there was no pit of acid to catch me. No, it was going to be one hell of a drop for my body.

Like time went slower than a turtle, I could feel my kneecaps scrap against the edge of the cliff as my body fell like a bag of rocks. My hands went above my head to try and grab at anything stable enough to hold my body weight.

My head was now passing by the edge I had slipped off of, but I saw 10K's hand reach towards me before I saw his dark hair sweeping in for my life. When he wrapped his long fingers around my little wrist, I felt immediate pain spread to my elbow and fingers.

My body jerked to a stop from falling, forcing a grunt from his lips at the dead weight he held onto with only one hand. I wanted to cry out in pain for him to let go of me, but I knew he'd never let me go.

Not 10K. As soon as I was secured in his grasp, the slow motion was clicked off by an invisible force and everything was going in the pace it should be. I watched as 10K's breathing was harsh and rushed out as his left hand was the only thing keeping me alive.

My life was literally hanging onto his hand at the moment. I curved my hand around his wrist to try and help myself, but the pain from my stitches still hissed out. His chest was flat against the cliff I had fallen off of while mine was smacked against the front of it.

He had his free hand flat on the grass, ready to pull me when he either found the strength or when he had help doing so. I don't think he was going to risk pulling me up by himself and accidentally dropping me.

"Do you.. do you think you could let go of my wrist?" I grunted out, feeling pressure against the wounds Doc had yet to unstitch.

They're almost healed. I don't need them to bust open. Cassandra was the next rescuer to drop down to her chest and grab my other wrist with absolutely no regards for my wounds that her master had caused.

I cried out in pain that time, feeling my nerves break into full blown pain.

"Easy, Cassandra!" 10K shouted, ending his orders with a grunt.

Her gaze showed how fierce and how emotionless she could be, even though she was saving my life. The two helpers both looked at each other, having a mutual talk in their head before pulling me up at the same time.

They fell onto their backs while I fell on to my chest with my feet dangling from the edge. I rather my feet dangle than my whole damn body.
