Entering an office that I was quickly becoming way too familiar with, I was met with two things. The first was Rebecca's computer monitor being on and unlocked, which was rare when one of us were in her office. Whether she turned it off to prevent us from going online or seeing what she had jotted down about us, was something we weren't supposed to know or see. Apparently, this was a different case.
The other thing wasn't exactly a thing, it was a someone. An equally surprising, yet unwanted presence in my life. After all I'd been through, she had the audacity to stand in a room across from me like nothing had ever happened. Even if drugs stood at the center of being the cause of my own problems, this woman wasn't too far away from standing right beside those drugs at the epicenter of it all. The last person I wanted to see outside of Devin was standing right in front of me, and her name was Courtney Hale.
"I know you probably don't want to look at me after what I've done to you, but I need to know. Did Devin force you to have sex with him?" Courtney lifted her head with crossed arms, her wide eyes searing into the hair-covered right side of my face. "It was all over the news this morning. Devin was found outside the school with a full clip of bullets in both of his knees and one in his, you know, junk. Apparently the guy who shot him was the one who called the cops, and he said that it was revenge for Devin raping his sister."
"Before I brought you in here, she came here looking for you and I just happened to be coming after dropping my son off. She told me about what she saw, so I looked it up and it looks like it's true." Rebecca headed towards her computer and turned the monitor of her computer towards me.
Was she being serious? After all of what she did to me, she wanted to come here and make herself look like a better person? It was bad enough that I had to share the same room and air as her, but her being believed to be a good person made that air downright disgusting. When I actually showed up to school for whatever reason, she made my life hell. If I ran into her outside of school, she made my life an even worse hell. Everywhere I went, Courtney made my life a walking and living nightmare.
It wasn't fair. After all that she did, she was being looked at as some kind of saint. She was just as bad as Devin and deserved every punishment that he, himself, had gotten. She needed to feel every inkling of pain that he, himself, felt and was going to feel. Devin got exactly what was owed, an arrest and being handicapped. A bed behind bars would've just been the icing.
Rebecca turned on a video that showed a young, clean shaven guy that was likely in his early years of college. The epitome of a twenty something.

'This morning, reports of eight or so gunshots near Ely Davis High School were called in to EPD. Upon arrival, police apprehended a young male with a gun and phone in each hand. Underneath this young man lied local student and Ely Davis High quarterback Devin Herrera, who was found with eight nine-millimeter rounds shared between both legs and single shot into his genitals.
Josh Fields, the apprehended suspect, was taken to the nearest jail while Devin Herrera was rushed to the hospital. Mr. Fields, however, has insisted on letting his reasons for doing what he did be known. After getting in contact with us, we sat down with Mr. Fields to hear his side of the story. This is what he had to say:
"My sister FaceTimed me last night and told me she went to a drive-in with her new boyfriend for a date. I thought it was just her way of nagging me to get a girlfriend like she always did, until she started crying out of nowhere. I kind of forced it out of her, but she told me everything. After she took the drink he "bought" her, she got dizzy and wasn't able to move. I got so angry after she told me that he drove off somewhere and started to take her clothes off that I hung up on her and left my house before I even thought about what I was going to do."
