Disturbing new allegations have come out against Ely High quarterback, Devin Herrera, who has been accused and now charged with the rape of Rylee Fields. Gerald Marina joins us on this story and Gerald, it was revealed today that another girl has come forward, saying that, she too, is a victim of the local star's accused actions.

Yes, Tina. Lynn Owens, the victim of these newest allegations, says that she was invited to a party that consisted of the football team and their schoolmates a little over a year ago. It was as the party was nearing it's climax that she says she was handed a drink by him and was overtaken with dizziness before helping her to the stairs of the pool and eventually stripping her. This is the second accusation against a man who seemed to have his entire future ahead of him, but could now be spending the majority of his life in prison.

Devin Herrera is being accused of the insidious rapes of these two local teenagers, in which both of their statements claim that an unverified drug played an active role in the events that date all the way back to late July of this previous year. Devin Herrera's father, judge Anthony Herrera, was seen visiting his son in the hospital joined with two other men. He had no comment. However, his lawyer had this to say on Devin and the accusations made by his accusers:

"Devin has always been an upstanding student and a pillar in Ely's young community. Ask anyone in the community what they think of him, and you'll get the same answer from everyone. He is near the top of Oregon in grades, he volunteers at the homeless shelter whenever he isn't practicing, and he lead his teammates to victory every Friday. In what way does that resemble a man who would rape a girl? All these girls have done is injure a boy with a bright future and slander his name. We look forward to proving Devin's innocence and preserving his good name. It's innocent until proven guilty, not guilty until proven innocent."

"I think we owe an apology to the both of you. We tried to keep this as private as possible, but it ended up being impossible to keep your names out of it." Alexis, the prosecutor my mom went to school with, had spoken both to me and Rylee in reference to the news clip that had been put out almost two weeks ago about us. "Going public ended up working better for us because it's allowed a venue change to Eugene, where your reputations don't and won't matter as there's nobody who knows either of you well. It's going to be a fairer trail because of that. Unfortunately, it had to come at the cost of revealing a bit more than we wanted to."

"It's not just that. Other girls that he's done this to may see that news bit on him and decide to come forward, too, just like Lynn." my mom added. While she wasn't directly working with the prosecution, she was helping in any way she was able to. "Rylee had the bravery to come forward, and that bravery allowed Lynn to see that something was being done about Devin. This could turn out to be a good thing."

So much had happened in so little time since that night in the restaurant. It all started with the venue change, then came the pre-trial procedures and pleadings, which both of us had been mostly left out of. Now Discovery was coming around, according to Alexis. Discovery was basically the process of exchanging information about witnesses and evidence being shown to prevent trial by ambush, at least that was what my feeble human mind retained from it. That meeting was now only a few hours away as we sat in what looked to be a large meeting room. Well, a large and nearly empty meeting room, that is.
