Adaptability

These are my beta drafts for Ryousuke, in the order I made them (left to right). The first one was before I decided he was a Kirigiri, where he was more of a delinquent. In the second one he was mischievous and cruel( like the kind of person who would chain someone to a chair and force them to watch Boku no pico) and In the last one he was quieter and more manipulative, but also cared a lot about his school grades. I finally settled on the version I have now, and I like how it turned out. Anyway, on with the story!

As Celeste's words sunk in, Chihiro's eyes filled with tears. "Live here...? Are you saying we should just accept it?"

"A lack of adaptability...is a lack of survivability. Survival is not based on who is the strongest or smartest. It comes down to who can adapt." That's not necessarily true...If someone was trying to kill me, I think I's rely more on the strength and intelligence than adapting. "As someone who has come out on top more than once, I have a suggestion."

"Huh? What do you mean?" Mondo asked.

"We all understand we are trapped here. Which means we will be spending the night here. However...you all remember the rules regarding nighttime, correct?"

I noticed a few people who obviously hadn't memorized the rules yet, so I spoke to remind them. "Rule 2: Nighttime is from 10pm to 7am. Some areas are off limits at nighttime, so please excercise caution. Rule 3: Sleeping anywhere other than the dorms will be seen as sleeping in class and punished accordingly." I got a few stares. "I have a good memory, and the rest of you should memorize the rules too."

"So regarding this 'nighttime', I think we need to add a rule of our own."

"What do you mean?"

Celeste smiled slightly, though it was obviously fake. "Going out at nighttime should be prohibited altogether. The school regulations do not actually tell us not to go out at night. I would like to make it official."

"That's a good idea...however, we have no way to enforce the rule, so we would just have to trust everyone else here to follow it," I said. That said, it could prevent potential victims wandering around at night. No one would like to be seen at night with a rule like this in place, as it would break the group's trust in them.

"B-But why...?"

"The way things are now, every time nighttime comes we will all start to get worried and anxious."

"A preventative measure against potential crime," I explained.

"Exactly. However, as Ryousuke said, this rule is unlike the other rules, as nobody will be forced to comply. We all have to agree to follow it."

"I see what you mean. But...I think I can agree to that," Junko said. "It's like the little goth lolita said. Without something like that, we're just gonna self-destruct."

"On behalf of all the men here, I agree to comply!" Taka shouted. Since when did he become our representative...?

"Hey, you can't just decide to speak for us!" Leon protested.

"So everyone is in agreement? Good. Then if you will excuse me..."

"Huh? Where are you going?"

"It is almost nighttime. I want to take a shower before it arrives. So...goodbye."

Everyone began to leave, the meeting adjourned. I returned to my room.

*Ding Dong Bing Bong*

"Mm, ahem, this is a school announcement. It is now 10pm. As such, it is officially nighttime. Soon the doors to the Dining Hall will be locked, and entry at that point is strictly prohibited. Okay then...sweet dreams, everyone! Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite..." Monokuma's voice sounded through the speakers.
