*Ding Dong Bing Bong*
"Good morning, everyone! It is now 7am and nighttime is officially over! Time to rise and shine! Get ready to greet another beee-yutiful day!"
The morning announcement sounded. Another day had begun. It's been about 3 days since the class trial. I've made a decent amount of progress during that time. But maybe I should put my investigation on hold for a while and keep my head low. I've already caught Kyoko's attention, and I really don't want that. I sighed. Bad enough that I'm in a school where murder is the graduation requirement, but I have to deal with family problems as well? How is that fair?
...At least we don't get homework.
I walked to the dining hall, as normal, and Toko and Byakuya were missing, as normal. What was definitely *not* normal was Taka and Mondo's conversation.
In the 10 seconds I spent listening to it as I walked in, I must have heard the word 'bro' about 12 times. Possibly 13.
"What...the...?" Makoto said. My thoughts exactly. What the hell happened?
"Hey, Makoto!" Mondo called.
"Thank you so much for acting as our witness yesterday!" Taka said.
"Huh? Are they...friends now?" Makoto asked.
"They've been like this all morning. They were all buddy-buddy as soon as they walked in. It feels gross," Hina complained.
Then the two self-proclaimed brothers started talking about a 'manly bond' or something.
"...I speak Japanese and English fluently and know the basics in a lot of other languages, but I have no clue what they are saying..." I commented.
"So, um...who won the contest?" Makoto asked. Contest? And what Taka said earlier about Makoto acting as a witness for them...I'm really glad that I didn't enter the dining hall last night.
Mondo and Taka apparently thought that whatever contest they did wasn't important. Somehow this is more shocking than when Monokuma told us to kill each other.
"You know what? I'll skip breakfast," I said, trying to find excuses to leave.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!" Taka replied. "A healthy body and mind are necessary to help you be the best person you can be!"
"Yeah, strangely enough I don't think skipping one meal is going to affect my health that much, compared to other things that could happen in this place," I shot back, leaving. I really wasn't in the mood to listen to Taka and Mondo talking obnoxiously loud.
I went to my room and read for a while. I had always found mystery novels quite interesting. Not for the reason most people enjoyed them-though, some did have interesting plots and detectives-but because I liked comparing real life to people's imaginations.
As someone who had experience as both a criminal and a detective(admittedly I had a lot more experience as a criminal, which was not something to be proud of), I liked to compare actual people and events to the people and events depicted in books. Most of them were completely wrong in their interpretations of these things.
When I finished reading I headed out of my room. I started to head up to the second floor to get some more books from the library. However, the person I least wanted to see happened to be standing on the second floor, near the stairs to the first floor. Kyoko looked at me with an unreadable expression, and I abruptly turned around and started walking down the stairs again.
